The Real “Chinese Democracy” May Have Leaked

As the inexorable march towards Chinese Democracy stomps along, the dangling carrots of periodic leaks and hints have made the decade-plus dry spell all the more tantalizing. But today’s latest batch of tunes — which are purported to be, finally, the real thing — really may signal the end of the wait. [UPDATE: Not shockingly, the site may already be down]. With all the curious “free Dr. Pepper” talk a few months back reeking sweetly of a publicity stunt to come, the timing doesn’t feel all that off for tunes to really start making it through the cracks.

Today’s leak features nine tracks, and besides the six which have already made the rounds (including a stunning version of “Madagascar,” complete with a chorus of Axls singing on top of each other), a trio of thus far unheard and unnamed songs offer further suggestions as to what may be around the corner. Axl’s howl is unmistakable, and one track features a porno-guitar wah-wah, hard-edged synths, flamenco guitar and delicate piano for what’s perhaps the most unique mish-mash of sounds in a GNR tune to date.

If it’s just another batch of demos, then they’re perhaps the most well-produced and complete demos in the history of the industry. And damn, they’re really pretty good.

The new songs are rubbish, jesus they're bad. Better, Madagascar and T.W.A.T are the only ones that sound decent. The rest are filler.

Six have been leaked before but not at this quality.

The three new ones are far far from rubbish. Two have hit written all over them and one would be the best bond theme in years. All of them are better than the **** on the radio these days.

Before you get all excited though I have to say that some of these songs sound nothing like appetite era Guns, They are more like Illusions era Guns, only better.

They're more like a bunch of riffs with Axl going ayyyeeeyyeee over them while someone plays guitar through a pitch shifter. The songs don't fit together right.

Ok you've made it clear you don't like it, let everyone else judge for themselves. Remember not all of these are even going to be on the album. Consider them part of the Chinese Democracy session.

Im with ron on this im a member of a gnr forum and got these this morning and it was like chrimbo coming early! Out of the 3 "new" leaks i have to say the untitled song is the best at the mo, we heard rhiad before just not studio quality and it rocks like **** the other one is choc full of flamenco like beats kind of a grower...also lovin the new intro to TWAT!Will the world finally get a new GNR release this year.....**** knows!

listened to the three tracks, they're ok but nothing groundbreaking. Better than whats out at the moment though.

Hey, thought it would be of interest to a lot of people to see the differences between the MSL leaks and the new ones, cos I just spotted one.

Chinese Democracy; - Listen to the intro starting at about 48s to 1:02, there are some new background ambient noises, sound a bit like (intentional) guitar feedback maybe.

The Blues;

- after 04:19 (ah ah ah ah~parts) I can hear the chorus sounds like many people do it. I mean something like church choir doing. (raspaxl)

Madagascar;

- I can hear Dizzy's bongo sounds on left through entire song. and after 04:54 I can hear low-voiced chorus (maybe Ron or Axl). (raspaxl)

IRS;

- some echo added in Robin's guitar at intro. and more kickdrums and bass. also I can hear some guitar flat noise about 02:20 and same at 03:59

Ron Thal has confirmed that these are old demos and he is not on them, implying he is on the finished versions.

I wasn't impressed. Very bland and all mixed up like Axel doesn't know what hes trying to be, pop or rock. Listened back to back with Velvet Revolver, VR sound more like Appetite for Destruction, and this new GnR (its just Axel really) sounds more like the worse parts of Use Your Illusion. If that floats your boat you'll probably like it. I never did though. For me theres only about 6 good tracks on Use Your Illusion I & 2.

Bit late for this thread, but I heard the new songs the other day. Of the nine, Chinese Democracy is the only one with a bit of umph. The rest sound like generic Bon Jovi songs (I actually thought someone had just re-laballed a few Bon Jovi songs when I first heard them).

I think I was right not to be excited about this album.

Exciting news !

The new Rock Band 2 game will feature the debut of the first official release from the new Guns n Roses album. The track is called "Shackler's Revenge" apparantly and isn't (afaik) one of the songs that has previously been leaked.
Surely the most positive step towards an album release in ages. hooray. (was that sarcasm? tbh at this stage even I'm not sure anymore.)
