    Hi all,
not strictly photography related but the issue of colour management has cropped up here more than once in the past.
May be of use to some people.
Color management: (set gfx.color_management.enabled on in about:config and restart the browser to enable.) Firefox can now adjust images with embedded color profiles.

If you upload to the web in another profile than sRGB the pic won't look cock.

but if that's the case, what would an actual cock look like :D

    good news though.

Holy cow Robin!! Didn't see that anywhere. Thanks Ronan.

OT but what's all that "stumble" stuff doing in there??

EDIT: never mind. It's because I have stumbleupon installed.....

Just uploaded a photo that I output in the Prophoto colourspace. Am testing how it appears in IE7 versus Firefox 3.0 after installing the colour profile.

The sky appears purple in IE7, but in FF it's nice and blue :) Looks like this colour management lark works. Horayyy!

    Yeah it definitely works!! :D

Here is a very good site with plenty of examples and explanations: http://www.gballard.net/psd/go_live_page_profile/embeddedJPEGprofiles.html

P.S. Lovely luscious blue sky there Ronan!! Looks great here, must have a gawk in IE.

Must give this a go soon so!

Sick of my photos looking nice and Lightroom fresh in Safari, then looking like a bag o' **** in Firefox!

    Good heads up Ronnie!

I can't bloody find where the link is to my colour profile... any ideas anyone? Only calibrated the screen once with a spyder 3 elite, where would it have saved the profile?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,620 ✭✭✭Roen

For Windows it's more than likely in C:\WINDOWS\system32\spool\drivers\color
But it could also be in Program files\whatever software you used\profile.icc

    Looks good here

I appear to have got this too work too.....some of the colours on boards,ie have changed too, this box I'm typing in is snow white and next to it on the outside wide spaces it's a kind of light salmon colour?

My pictures on pix.ie seem far more saturated, I have a newish Samsung 226cw monitor so..........
Taking a few minutes to get used to it lol

    Great!

I have been using both firefox and safari, dont like safari much!

    Thanks for the info Roen!

The only downside is that my site won't load in FF 3.0....bloody typical :D

    not using standards then? :pac:

I'll have to wait another week to check this properly, my last graphics card fried during the week and am now using an ancient ATI rage card from the stoneages to tie me over........ everything's blurry!!!

I'm aware of that alright Bedlam. It's a move in the right direction nonetheless.

I'm kind of puzzled why it's off by default though.

    What a devious plug :D

Your site is working fine here.

Just wondering why would anyone want to upload to the web in anything other than sRGB? Unless they wanted someone else to download and print with a bigger gamut I suppose?

None of the flash based sites are loading for me on XP, OSX, Ubuntu, Solaris 10 JDE or any OS I use with FF 3.0.
I'm beginning to think it's me as no one else seems to be having the same problem.

Works here under XP SP2 and at home under Vista SP1. Did you clear your cache?

Try the Flock 2.0 beta. Flock is basically Firefox but optimised for Flickr.

    Nice call, well spotted.

Gotta love the fact that despite the fact the photo's got a Flickr title of "Colour_Profile_Test_FF3_0", looks a bit odd on anything other than Firefox 3 (and I guess Safari), and your description saying it's a test of colourspace, you've still got Flickrites asking you to add it to their groups
