My other half is worried she may be pregnant, we had unprotected sex while she was off the pill yesterday, she is due her period tomorrow. What is the verdict on this one, we are both very worried are the chances increased because its so close to period?

Without being rude here, but should you even be having sex if you don't understand how women get pregnant or the rudiments of fertility?

Women are generally least fertile close to their periods. They are generally most fertile mid-cycle. Of course, pregnancy is possible at any time.

We need some more information here? Was your girlfriend on the 7 day break from a course of the pill? If that was the case, then the pill is designed to work over that period and the chances of pregnancy are very slight (assuming that your girlfriend is taking the pill correctly).

If you are still worried, then your girlfriend should visit her GP for the morning after pill, which is most effective when taken up to 72 hours after intercourse.

In the meantime I would suggest that both of you take the time to educate yourselves on sex, pregnancy and fertility. Additionally, read the information leaflet that comes with the pill.

Chances of conception are fairly small given that ovulation generally occurs about 12 days into the cycle. If her period is due tomorrow her cycle is nearly complete.

Don't take anymore risks though:) and good luck.

Morning after Pill would be a wise move here.

To clarify ovulation can vary between women... as a rule it can occure between day 10 - 15 during your cycle.

Plus not to mention that sperm can still be viable within the body for 3-5 days... depending on your "environment"

I doubt very much that she will get pregnant.... Im no doctor
If your girlfriend is taking her pill correctly every day at the same time... hasnt been ill (physically sick) or on antibiotics (can interfer with absoption) then she will not get pregnant during her 7 day rest time.

PLEASE if your going to have sex be responsible and learn about firtility... how you get pregnant.... contraception... how the pill works.. what can cause the pill to not work. Im amazed how many people dont know anything about this!

My boyfriend is so well read on the subject he should teach sex ed! I dont want to get pregnant... and he certainly is not ready to have a child

  • You said she was 'off the pill', what does that mean? She had recently stopped taking it? Or she was on her 7 day break?

If she was on her 7 day break then she is fine. If she was +12 hours late in taking her pill in any of the 7 days before the unprotected sex, then your better off getting the morning after pill.

I would also suggest the two of your educate yourselves on fertitility.
