    depends what the scaffold is being used for? there are very good tower systems that you can rent for cheaper. depends though on the use!!

    its to build a 350sqft house :) i really cant afford to pay that much for scaffolding its scandolous

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,930 ✭✭✭Martron

    350sqft house? 3500? yeah unfortunately you will need a permanent solution like scaffolding. unfortunately that is right. planning can cut down your cost.

    build it once. plan ahead the short the time you have it the cheaper. etc make sure trades, materials are on site when you need them.

    i find with scaffoldin in a safety sense is have a go scafolders taking bars out to get access. you will need to pay a qualified scafolder to fix that. just to be wary in case anything was ever to happen with the scaffold

    What part of the country are you in ?
    You could buy second hand scaffolding & sell it on afterwards, but you will still need an insured installer to put it up

    Hi,
    I would'nt worry about scaffolding just yet, you have yet to pour your raft or block your house so your budget for these 2 stages will dictate.
    I paid 2300 for 3 months, shop around and you'll save

    Buy it, loads of it for sale in buy and sell. You will easily find someone certified to check it and sign it off, especially with the down turn. PAy them 300 squids to do it, about 1 hour work to check and sign off.

    If you take out self build insurance (which you probably have to do for to draw down your mortgage), you can get a policy for about €150 extra which does not need someone certified to erect, inspect and dismantle your scaffolding. It states that the scaffolding only needs to be erected and maintained by a competent person.

    For what it's worth, I am in the east and have been pricing around and have found costs to be roughly similar to above..if u shop around you can get scaffolding erected and NOT pay any hire.....

    Its better for them to have it erected on a site somewhere making them a few quid, than lying in their yards...

    I paid 2000 for mine and renting it for "as long as I want" at no extra cost. Based in Cork though!

    Being a competent person isn't good enough when erecting scaffolding.
    The person should be trained and have a CSCS card in scaffolding erection.
    It dosen't matter if the insurance policy says otherwise.

    From HSA website:
    All construction workers undertaking the tasks listed in the Fourth Schedule of the Construction Regulations, 2006 must have been issued with a FETAC award under the Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) and be in possession of CSCS registration cards. The list of tasks include

    (a) Scaffolding - basic;
    (b) Scaffolding - advanced;
    (d) Tower crane operation;
    (e) Self erecting tower crane operation - where the employee has not been trained in tower crane operation
    (f) Slinging/signalling;
    (g) Telescopic handler operation;
    (h) Tractor/dozer operation;
    (i) Mobile crane operation;
    (j) Crawler crane operation;
    (k) Articulated dumper operation;
    (l) Site dumper operation;
    (m) 180 excavator operation;
    (n) Mini-digger operation - where the employee has not been trained in the operation of a 360o excavator digger
    (o) 360o excavator operation;
    (p) Roof and wall cladding/sheeting;
    (q) Built-up roof felting;

    hey guys,
    im in galway and i rang 3 companys last week for scaffolding and the qoutes i got were 1800,1200 and 1300...they are mad to get it out of their yard and ill damn sure get them prices down when i ring them back and bounce them off each other..time wise it was for 3 months "and sure if you need it a bit longer ya can have it"
    DO NOT BUY it because it will be left in your garden looking up and you for a long time...so many people have it,its cheaper to rent now and get them to put it up,and take it away again..

    Stick to what you're good at and employ at main contractor.
    You'll get a comprehensive service at a very reasonable price these days.

    Jimbo, that's an amazing list or qualifications.
    Do you think any builder in Ireland is fully compliant?
    Oh well, I have me safe site pass - well worth a days teach-in.

    I'd imagine builders are largely incompliant with the HSA regulations, especially in rural areas.

    But scaffolding isn't something you want an unqualified person erecting.

    Do you think there is a need for a Key Post or Sticky containing a list of pitfalls for self-build/direct labour projects?

    Scaffolding and Insurance would only be two of the issues arising.

    Can you PM me the details of some of the quotes you got as I am looking for some scaffolding to be erected on site for next week as timber frame is arriving on site.

    I am based in north county Dublin, Meath area.

    yes an awful lot of builders are fully compliant! if your not fully compliant just stay away from it and leave it to the experts or else accidents will happen. As for the safe pass my dog could pass it!

    Well turns out the chap I rented my scaffolding from is not very intersted in taking if back off me. If by the end of the next week its not gone I'll be selling it.

    If anyone in Cork is interested in taking it off me (assuming yerman doesn't come for it in the meantime) then give me a PM and I can show you what's there.

    I can understand if he doesn't have any work for the scaffold, but in fairness don't leave me holding the stuff after I assumed that I was only renting it!

    Hi. I'm building new house in Galway area (approx 3500sq ft) and in need of some scaffolding. Cheapest Quotes so far is €1500 to deliver, erect, dismantle and take away and another €150 per week rent. Does anyone think this is good? Or does anyone know of where I might get a better deal?

    Thanks in advance,

    Rio

    Just PM'd u......Dont get into a weekly rate..try and get a fixed price, based on your schedule moving. So Erect, Drop for plasterers and Take away when plasterer is finsihed. If u wanted to keep it another week , for a painter, then deal with that after...few bob.....Ur labour on painting drops substantially if the scaffolding is there..
