well not meaning to sound smart or stating the obvious, but if you have joined a gun club and have landowners permission, i think telling them the reason you want a gun is to hunt, that should be a sufficient reason in my opinion.

You've already given us your reason, to hunt rabbits and magpies etc, that should be enough for the gardai too

thanks for the reply.I wasnt sure if that was enough of a reason by the way he was talking.I dont think he likes people with guns living in his village

sounds like a good airgun might be a good option for you, can be easier to get a licence for as a first gun.

Get Courtlough to give you latter saying you are a member.

Bring this letter, the bill of sale for your gun, your shooting permission. If you have a proof of ownership of a gun safe bring that as well. Into your FAO and the FAO would get you to fill out a form then you play the waiting game.

And at this time of the year it could be waiting till after the certs get renewed end of July.

Good luck getting your cert and happy safe shooting.

What .22 have you got your eyes on?

    Does mags mean magpies?

If so, I take it you'll be using your rifle when they are on the ground and not flying:eek::eek:

    hi folks,

can i suggest you apply for your licence without the aid of Courtlough if possible. Reason being if you get it off your own bat you can come and go between clubs giving the guards no reason to question why you have your licence. if they give you the licence because you are a member of a club and then left the club they are obliged to tell the guards and that can cause trouble come renewal time. just send in letter saying you want to hunt on private lands you have permission on and that should be enough.

yeah not as a rule but a lot of them will to cover themselves. if a guy has got his licence because he has joined a club his reason for the firearm is club use. if he decides to leave the club the question now is does he have a use for it !!! ya get me? so the club will inform the guards to clear themselves of any liability
