Anyone used the Chunnel from UK to France recently ? It's years since I travelled that route (2000) and when I did, I recall not booking in advance but just turning up and getting a slot on the nxt available train.

Worked well for me then, but heading to France in mid-July via the UK with the family, and was wondering whether I was better off having a solid booking (but running the risk of HAVING to make the pre-booked timeslot) or just going on spec. and "hoping" for the best ?

    Appreciate your views / input.................thanks.

We were in London recently and on the spur of the moment decided to go on the Eurostar to Paris. Got a great deal with a travel company (sightseeing tours of Paris included) for £129 day return. But we thought we could cut out the middle man so rang Eurostar directly and were quoted £399 day return for the next day. I would book it online to availiable of the cheaper deals. There seem to be plenty of departures though so you could probably turn up and get something without too much of a wait but you'll definately pay for it.

The OP is asking about the Chunnel (EuroTunnel) as opposed to the Eurostar.

I have no idea though if you can still just turn up and get the next available train though it is possible to book in advance on their site and there is still availability for tomorrow (£100 return) so it should be ok.
