Italian ATM's

Going to Italy (Lake Garda ) in 2 weeks time! Anyone have experience of using Italian Atms? Tyrying to minimise the amount of cash I bring Is there a daily ATM withdrawal limit locally ? Are Cirrus and Maestro easily accessible and availible?

Any help appreciated !

Yes Cirrus and Maestro are everywhere in Italy....not sure about the limit.

I would caution you to let your bank know you are in Italy before you go.

I was in Tuscany last month and withdrew money from an ATM with my Laser card. I had a missed call on my phone the next morning. When I retrieved the message it was from the Bank fraud team asking me to confirm I had made the withdrawal. My card was frozen until I contacted them. When I rang I was told "there is a lot of Fraud in Italy so this is the policy". They unlocked my card while on the call. It was very inconvenient and annoying as it costs money to ring back from abroad.

So it may save you some hassle to contact your bank about your Laser/ ATM card as well as your Credit Cards.

If your credit card is clear I'd stick a couple of hundred on it it and just use that.
