NTL - unjust cancellation fee - HELP!!

    HI all,

If anyone can help me with this problem, I would be very gratefull..

I had a NTL contract in my last house for 14 months. After that time I moved out, paid my last bill and informed NTL that I was cancelling my contract. As it was over the 12 mt stipulation in the 'contract' there should be no cancellation fee - and I was not told that there was one.

I went travelling, and had no word from NTL - either by paperwork/phone/email.

On my return home, I received a phone call saying I owed them 123 euro for the cancellation fee, as I had cancelled my contract within a 12 mt period. This is wrong information.

I started my account in April 2006 - ended in july 2007.
Their records (i.e.computer) state I started my contract in April 2007 -end in july 2007.

So, they have not contacted me in a year to tell me that I owe them 123 euro, and said because I didn't pay up have called in a collection agency. I have just got my letter from the collection agency, and have said that the matter is in dispute.

Everytime I ring NTL to try and resolve the matter all they say is that their records state my contract was only from April 2007-July 2007.

I am at my wits end. I am at the moment trying to find any bills that I paid in the 2006 period to prove to them that my account was active. But since I moved out and went travelling its proving hard to find them (aargh).

If anyone can give me any advice on how to tackle this problem I would really apreciate it.

Needless to say I will never open an account with NTL again, and my SKY account is being paid electronically (by CC) so I have all my records for future need.

    Thanks a million...:o

Did you order or upgrade your service in April 2007, like upgrade to Digitial, or sports or movies or broadband, this would start a new 12 month contract....

How did you pay your bills? Is there a record of the money coming from your bank account? Might be easier to track than the paper bills from NTL...

Keep all contracts, signed installation papers etc. You never know when you may well need them!

Op, how did you pay NTL? Can you show them any record of a payment prior to April 2007 such as getting a copy of a bank statement?

Even better - tell them you will be happy to pay them if they can produce the contract you signed up for this supposed period!

    Hi guys.

I paid my NTL bill with cash through the post office. Its such a pain.. I can't find any of the receipts as I moved out of my house and must have shredded them.

I have asked NTL for a copy of the installation contract, and they have emailed the engineers - which will take 2 weeks or so I'm told to get a response.

    Grrrr...
