    Hey all,

Just sorting prints for my end of year college exhibition tomorrow and theres a shot I actually only took today I really like of some grafitti, thing is the way it's cropped and such it only shows a portion of the graffiti, nothing of the doorway etc that surrounds it. Some PP work was done too to colours and such.

Basically I'm asking would it be frowned upon to include this do you think? Looking for opinions here. Since it's graffiti also I don't know whether if I sell a print or something, does the person who did it have any come back at me? Don't want to annoy anyone here ya know?

    Cheers,

    -Ryan

I dont think it will be frowned apom.If it's colourfull and bright it is art and it will go in well with the band photos which im guessing aren't really bright

Is the issue not more of a copyright type one?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 601 ✭✭✭RCNPhotos

Yeah I was wondering about the copyright side.....Don't think I'l use it, not really sure, ugh lol

I'm not sure either about the copyright side, prolly better safe than sorry till you know for sure! Suppose it's killing you not to use it if it's a good image.

Depends if the graffiti was a commissioned piece or just some tat that was thrown up on a wall. If it was one, then there could be copyright issues, if it's the other then fair game.

It's a piece by Masser, it's in a doorway kinda on south william street I belive it was. Haven a notion if it was comissioned or not.....hmmmm

my take on this sort of stuff is - it aint your work really, but if someone / something was the focus and that piece of grafitti lends more to the scene ok! i'd say yeah, but like a photograph of the eiffle tower imight be still a crap photo sorta ya know without something else!!

Cheers people, I have decided to leave it out, might put it on my own wall at home :D

But anyway, the exhibition is on in filmbase, starting on thursday night at 7-9, free booze and Mark McCall is opening it. He's a good speaker, cool guy and great photographer so come down. It's on until sunday.

I don't think Maser would have a problem with it. Some graff writers would have a problem though.

The piece you are talking about was, to the best of my knowledge comissioned.

It is very easy to contact Maser on his bebo and he is normally very quick to respond to question.

for me good graffiti , is art , i love Banksy's perspective and creativity -- go for it , if it doesn't challenge people its not art IMO

    "Of course he can't. rolleyes.gif"

You're answering what's known as 'a rhetorical question'. Honestly, since they stopped teaching Latin in schools, standards have gone down the sink. Baaah! Bring back hanging etc.
