Noob rewires his gaff

    Hi,

I'm currently an NTL analogue subscriber and am about to rewire my entire house. I've decided, in this brave new world of digital FTA broadcasting, that I don't want subscriptions so will be going for Freesat combined with FTA terrestrial - analogue to begin with, switching to digital when that goes live for realsies.

All equipment will be HD capable. I will be feeding the signals into 6 rooms, and would like two of the Freesat boxes to be PVRs, so that's 8 independent feeds from the dish.

The main things I'm wondering about now are LNBs and cabling.

Do eight independent satellite tuners require an octo LNB, or can the signal from a quad be split effectively? I know this is addressed in another thread but I couldn't make sense of it. Noob, dontcherknow.

How many cables/sockets do I need in each room? Can the terrestrial and satellite signals be combined and split again, thereby using a single cable and wall socket? Can the two satellite signals for the PVRs travel in the same cable and out the same socket? If so, could all three signals run the same way, be split in the room, and produce something watchable?

For the immediate future, I'll just be running my NTL signal through the cabling, but my intention is to have upgraded by the end of the year, assuming the relevant PVR HD STB is available. But I want the wiring to be future-proof for HD satellite and terrestrial now, while I have the sparks in.

Any answers, pointers, or other help would be much appreciated.

with satellite, you can get a QUATRO lnb (not to be confused with a quad lnb)

there are 4 feeds from the Quatro lnb .. these 4 feeds go into a box called a multiswitch.
you then have multiple outputs from this multiswitch (its like a giant splitter) that you can run to each room

ie, you can have 16 or more outputs.. 1 for 16 rooms, or 2 for 8 rooms (if u have a pvr you will need two cables)

Be sure to use CT100 and quality connections etc

*** also, with some multiswitches there is an input for a tv aerial, so the sat and tv signal will be sent down the same cable, and can be split when it gets to the tv point
