100 Year Old House & Wireless Network???

    Hi Folks,
My dad has broadb down the country in very old house - walls up to 1 meter thick, solid stone & morter. The bb network cable is entering the house in the wrong area to plug directly into pc. To eliminate cables I set up a belkin wireless router to reach across the corridor to other room with pc - no problem there. The problem is that my Mam now wants to have her new laptop connected to it too but the wireless signal wont stretch to the other end of the house - kitchen etc. I have several options and would like your opinions -
1 - run another network cable from belkin back outside, up to kitchen, drill hole in wall and set up another wireless router there.
2 - try to use second wireless router as bridge to connect - but not sure how well this could work with thick walls etc
3 - use Powerline or Homeplug to connect in kitchen - but dont know if this will work on old fuse box technology, and on old wiring.

The Powerline option seems best if working with old wires... Anyone with experience of this?
Also would the Powerline in the kitchen connect to another wireless router?

    Any comments / help appreciated...

    H

    Two easy options -

    1) Powerline - use your electrical wiring in the house as a network - all yea need to do is buy as many homeplug/powerline devices as yea need network points around the house - min of 2 of course! http://www.expansys.ie/t.aspx?f=847
I use 2 of these currently (200mbps units) to stream to my Xbox1/PS3 etc at my TV and they work great. Yup, it would allow yea to add a wireless access point no prob.

    2) Get a wireless router that supports WDS - it allows wireless routers/access points connect together making your broadband connection kinda leap frog from one router to another and extending your wireless network - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wireless_Distribution_System
Great when it works, but with very thick walls I would go with the homeplug option + wireless access point if your walls are very thick
I've used this in my parents+brothers house - linking two houses, making the wireless setup easy for end-users.

Wireless connection wouldn't really be an option in your situation, you'd spend most of the time looking for a signal and its really a pain when that happens, go with the powerline option, much more stable and as has already been said you can just plug in a wifi router to the powerline adaptor to get a wireless connection in the other part of the house. Note if you want to stream media then advise going for the 200mbs version as the other lower speeds just aren't up tothe task (too many skips)

GL and let us know how it goes.

Word of warning, try not to get a Belkin they are sh*ite, from experience. Linksys ftw
