    Hi Folks,

Can the recordings be archived/stored on a PC?
Can the be viewed on a PC?

    How?

    Thanks,
    majj

I think the only way to get anything off it is to copy to a DVD.

I don't think there is any way to hook it to a PC and read the hard drive.

    Hi Paul,

Copy to DVD? Do you mean basically to record the output onto DVD?

That probably means for me I can take the cable out (RF out) and capture the output via my TV card and MCE. Not ideal but if I need to archive something suppose it might work.

    Thanks,
    majj

The trend is for content to be locked into your device so that they can control your viewing. This applies equally to UPC and Sky.

Best way to get good quality content for viewing on a PC is to use a PC satellite card and satellite dish. Or get a FTA satellite receiver/PVR which allows for content to be transferred to PC.

    Yes, through the output.

That may work. It would still be a recording as opposed to a copy though. :)

Just out of interest to anyone, I posted a while back about this, saying that I'd taken the HD out of the DVR and tried connecting to anything I could - my Mac, XP on a pc, XP on my Mac and Vista on my mac. Not a sausage! well the nearest I got was that XP could see 'something' connected via USB. Doh!

I wonder would Linux view the disk? Anyway I don't intend on removing the disk anytime soon.

    Thanks for the update Simon.
