Why is yer man wearing a tea-towel around his neck? My nanny has the exact same one!

Good loking pic by the way, but it seems like its just a shindig in somebodys back garden, or a field. Needs more people & sweat. What is it? A rave or something?

Why do you want a press pass? Do you just want to get close to the bands, to get good pictures for yourself or do you want to get pictures of bands published? You need to affiliate yourself with some sort of publication to get a press pass, otherwise I don't see a non-pro photographer getting near the press area.

And your photo is good, not great though. I don't mean to sound like a hard ass, I'm new to these boards and I don't want to make a terrible first impression, but what were you going for with that picture? Where would you imagine is would get published? Who would want to see it? As Ninja_scrotum said it just seems like its a snap of a party in the garden. You could possibly improve it a little, for a start I'd crop out some of the sky/trees and bring the picture in a little on the left. Make something a focal point, right now the guys are just dwarfed by the trees. And with slow shutter speeds you have to be careful of what you're capturing. For example what is the large red thing on the guy in the tea towels head? Was it just caused by the camera?

So anyway, like I said, don't want to sound horrid! It is a good shot, but you need to think about what and who you're aiming for with a photo if you want to get something published! Hope that helps, I do try to be constructive. icon14.gif

Whats the best way to go about this?
Would this pic standup to publishing? (ps. beginner here)

that shot is good and could be published with the right article. as regards concert photography, what you posted isn't concert photography.

lots of ways of getting in to it. either by knowing the right people and being really lucky or by hard work and going out and shooting a lot

don't do it if you want to make money, don't do it if it's just to get into gigs for free, but do it cos you love music.

my tips are all on my faq page here: www.aaaphotos.org/faq.htm

    hope that helps

Right by gig photography I wasn't really thinking of bands, sorry for the confusion.
That pic was just put in as illustration, I was compltely pissed and I don't remember taking it.

Looking more for tactics about getting a pass to a fairly normal rave or festival. Blagging tactics you might say.
