Just how good is it and how much money would do for a week on the rip over there?

I was there about 2 years ago and thought it was great.. personally I spent about 500 in the week and that included eating in some of the most expensive restaurants, clothes shopping and getting a tattoo.

Back then you could expect to pay €2-4 for a beer in a bar on the beach front and as little as 60 cent the further away from the beach you go. Same applies to the restaurants.

Night life is great, good bars and clubs, lots of really nice retaurants and its fairly good for familys.. even at night as a lot of the beach front bars have play areas.

However, having chatted to alot of locals, prices were already on the rise then and expected to go much higher

I haven't been there myself, but know people who have. Reports are that it is cheap, but some of the hotels can be a bit ropey.

Also some people were put off Bulgaria by the fact that there are captive bears being made to perform for the public. :(

Wouldnt be a fan of captive bears now i must say.

What kind of sockets are on the walls? Our hotel is supposed to be nice and on the beachfront. Wouldnt be too bothered about the quality of food either! Is the local beer drinkable??

I have to say I didn't come across the bears but having said that we have plenty of captive animals performing in Ireland :(

I may be wrong but I think the sockets are standard European. Local bear is grand, some brands are a bit cloudy but most are fairly light... similar to Heineken/Miller

I was there last week, everything is roughly half the price of here, well Dublin anyway!
I didn't see any of those bears although I saw a guy with a small crocodile.
There is a big nightclub called Lazur, it was mental last week anyway on the night Sweeden won the football match. It was the first time I saw a swimming pool attached to a nightclub!

No, no visa is required although they do study your passport at passport control.............kinda makes u nervous! Its a great place tho! Cheap as chips, they use the Lev over there and its about 2 lev to 1 euro.............Don't get your currency in the airport(over there) tho! I made that mistake and got ripped off! changed 100 euro and only got 165 lev when it should have been 200!! Ah well! And if you're getting a taxi always set a price with the driver be4 you get in! Cos they'll try and sting u! Iceberg is a pretty good bar to hit they've live bands playing everynight and a pretty good DJ! only 5 lev in.....2.50! its 4 nothing!

Also a lot of the bars do happy hours on cocktails in the evenings so you can get pina coladas, etc. for around €2 each, a great way to start the evening!

Imo Bulgaria is a great place to go... i spent the whole of the winter season just gone there. I drove over as i was going for so long & found it a great experience. Some parts of it, like any country, can be dodgy & the police force/gov are fairly corrupt... But if you're there for a hol odds are you'll be somewhere touristy (e.g sunny beach) which is safe as.... As for spends, its generally good value for money pints in the tourists resorts usually work out around e2-e3 whereas outside the tourist areas can be as low as 40c, local brew in the supermarket is bout 40c a can & is good!, Dinner in a decent rest will set ya back bout 10e a head. If you're in sunny beach be sure to check out nessebar, around the bay, for some great and afforable restaurants, easliy walkable or a short taxi. Bulgarians seem to love the Irish, & although the cultures are quite diff i found it really easy to blend in with them & make some good bulgarian friends... So dont feel put off by not knowing the language or culture... Enjoy.
P.s. if you're in amigos, check out Tena the barmans flair tricks, class.

I was there last year with family but I spent most of the time doing my own thing. It really is dead cheap over there, the food was pretty nice and was for half nothing! There was a shop next door ( VERY useful! ) to where we were staying and I got friendly with one of the local guys who worked there one night when I couldn't sleep. Told me its a hard life for the locals but he prefers life there than when he was living in America.

Also, the night clubs are open until 6am and I'm sure most of the bars are open nearly 24 hours as well.

As for money, 500 Euros is more than enough.

While your there, you should check out the pirate DVDs, the picture of the ones I saw on being sample were of professional DVD quality!

You could do either, it is a place that suits both types of holiday. The hookers won't bother you if you are with a girl so no worries there. There are a few strip joints, etc. in fairly prominent areas but no one seems to take a bit of notice of them.
She will enjoy the choice of bars/restaurants and the lovely beach.
