Any advice would be GREAT. My bf met my parents for first time recently and him and my Mum didn't exactly hit it off. She's been silent on the matter since & I really don't know whether to confront her about it and try & find out what her problem is, or ignore it?

We don't live in the same city & I don't really care what she thinks. It's more for him really as his Mum & I get on great & I'd like for him to feel welcome at my parents place.......

Any advice as to how to handle this?

Have a casual chat with your mum, ask her what she thinks of him. Ask her to be honest with you.

My dad didnt like my ex when I first got with him..then they had a chat (about football or whatever) and they got on then. So it was OK. They wernt bed buds or anything, but they got on.

5 years later we broke up..and my dad then tell me that Im better off without him and everyone can see that, but I needed to find out for myself. Which I obv. did.

We are somethime blinded by bad points in another person, we cant see them..so ask your mam, if she gives you an honest view she may only be looking out for you.

Question is, Why didn't your mam like him?

This happened to me. My parents are very old fashioned and judgemental. they hated my BF without even meeting him! all because he was divorced and had a kid. They had no other reason for not liking him. I cold understand them being concerned for me but to hate someone they never met was extreme
I stood my ground and went out with him. It was three years before they met him properly. The fact that I stood up to them eventually made them realise that I do love him and he loves me. Now he and my parents get on fine. once they met him properly they realised how nice he is.

so do ask your mam what it is she didnt like or what made her act that way. if its a legitimate reason discuss it but if its something judgemental forget it

It's not that she didn't like him - just that they didn't click & she said she found him hard to talk to.......dunno why I'm bothered, just makes things a bit difficult I suppose.

You should tell her that may be he's nervous meeting his partners mother for the first time...

ah - gotcha. I wouldn't worry, as heli said, probably first time nerves...
