There's a new update for the Wii out today, 3.30, and from what I've read it stops both the twilight hack and freeloader. Thread on it here

Apparently the Homebrew channel will still work, but you need the Twilight Hack to get that up and running.

The folks who do the Twilight Hack already have a workaround to keep the Twilight Hack working, but its not available yet for public release. I'd say those with the Freeloader would do well to take the time from now until a Wii update is essential to setup the Twilight Hack so that there's no lost Smash Bros/No More Heroes/Okami gaming time! :D

"17 June 08: Bushing has already announced a workaround after just 6-8 hours of work! Big thanks to all involved! (Note that the workaround is not yet available publicly)"

You're ok - for now. In the future there may be an update included on the disc (like Smash Bros. has). In such a case THEN you are fecked. :D

Yeah, it seems they'll be a workaround for the hack but freeloader users will be locked out.

There is homebrew region free program, http://www.usbgecko.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=23 , but it's not as good as freeloader, but there's hope for the future.

What a total pisser. I can hurry up and finish no more heroes but I really want to play Smash Bros. a hell of a lot more and it will get a lot of play time at parties.

Nintendo shafts their customers yet again without using any KY jelly.

You cant blame them for updating firmware to stop hacks. The games are region encoded for a reason (ie to make money for nintendo) so it was almost inevitable that they would stop the workaround sooner or later.

    Just import brawl!

This easily the worst update ever! I love the way they didnt just release the hacking stopping stuff and threw in the mii parade thingy... i dont know one person who will ever use that!?

There is no way I'll be updating till they figure a work around for this. I dont particularly care about the twilight hack, or the free loader.. but they disabled the trucha signer bug (custom disc signer for the wii) and my custom guitar heros wouldnt work anymore :( That would make me a sad panda

I'd say it wont be long till custom firmware comes out on the wii (not basing this on anything just a hunch).

I think Retr0gamer gamer has an imported Brawl. The point about freeloader is that it will still work for now but it won't be long before Nintendo release a game that requires the update to play, so you either choose not to play any new games or not to play your imports. (or re-buy your imports locally which probably won't use your save data)

    I'm disappointed in Nintendo.

Thats exactly my problem. Going to have to get that homebrew channel installed just so I can get the import channel thing. Won't be able to access the wii shop either until I update I think.

    **** Nintendo in fairness.
Since moving house a month ago, I haven't even bothered plugging my Wii in. Think I might even end up selling it before I emigrate in October... So much for the "revolution"!

hitting the states in 2 weeks and was gonna buy up a load or wii games, the place i stay has a shop next to it that has a used/old games tray and the priceses are crazy, 3 / 4 bucks for some of the xbox games the last time i was there!!!!

bought that freeloader sh1t but i suppose its useless now, not up to speed on modding the damn thing so i probably wont even bother going into the shop this time, nintendont in my opinion cause we are all being so shafted here with price my ass actually hurts thinkin about it.

Also if you haven't updated your Wii to 3.3 then freeloader will work until you do. You can see what firmware you have by looking under your Wii's settings.

Quick question just home from US and bought a couple of games but don't have a freeloader yet. If i buy it will i be able to use it or is it useless to me now?!

If you have twilight princess and an SD card then I'd say try GeckoOS via the Homebrew Channel, freeloader might work in your Wii right now but sooner or later you won't be able to avoid updating. I don't have any US games so I haven't been able to test it but from what I've read GeckoOS works well.

Edit: to answer your question directly, freeloader will work until you update your Wii to 3.3 or higher, assuming you haven't already. After that it won't work.
