I'm a girl and for years there have been a few long dark hairs growing around my nipples (5-7 on each) . I always pluck them as soon as I see them but sometimes they then become ingrown. I have the same problem in the area on my tummy between my pubic region and my belly button, just a few dark hairs but yuck. I'm naturally very pale and blond so they are particularly noticeable and I think that the plucking has made them much darker and thicker.

I have never shown anyone them as I am mortified! I was thinking of getting laser or electrolysis to remove them but I'm not sure if many other women have this problem. Could anyone recommend me a clinic that may have dealt with this issue before and who would be professional and sympathetic? I don't want to walk into any old one as I would be very embarrassed.

Stuff like this is common enough. Any clinic will have seen this before too. many times. So try an put that to the back of your mind anyway.

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

Hi, OP, I had this problem too. Thing is, I didn't know that having hair in those areas was a problem! My second boyfriend pointed it out to me. Up until then I hadn't really noticed, I didn't think it at all odd.

Your best bet is definately getting it lasered off. If you shave it (quick, cheap and easy) it will look even worse as stubble. Waxing would be better or depilatory cream but it will come back.

Lasering does not hurt but it can work out expensive. I can't remember exact prices but I do know it cost €90 to get the hair above my lip lasered off. And you will need to get it done about 8 times (for anywhere on your face/neck) for it to be permanent and burn the hair folicle for good. For anywhere on your body it's about 6 times.

I really do suggest setting up a meeting with a clinic, or a few of them if you want to compare prices. Trust me, nobody there will laugh at you or think you odd. I got a copy of a complete price list and one of the options was to have hair removed from your cheeks, so if they've seen that, and seen it enough times to have it as a standard option, then nothing you have will surprise them.

Lots of women have visible hair on their nipples and belly. They will increase with age and hormonal changes.

Any clinic you go to will certainly have seen them before.

Ive seen on the urban wax price list that they do nipple waxing, so its obviously very common. dont worry!

I have the very same problem - for me it's a result of a hormone imbalance. I was diagnosed with polycystic ovarian syndrome a few yearsago and I used to get very upset by the excess hair. The best way I deal with it is by using an epilator (hurts a wee bit but it's quick and lasts for ages!) and a tweezers for sensitive areas! :D

Thanks guys, its nice to know that its common enough but they really bother me and I know if a guy saw them he would probably run a mile! I managed to hide them from my ex for two years and am sick of it! The boobs are my biggest worry. When I remove them there is a fifty fifty chance of the hairs turning ingrown and I am afraid of them causing scars etc. Because of this I really want a permanent solution. So would laser be best? Can anyone recommend me somewhere in Dublin that does this? It would be great If I could get a recommendation from someone that has had actually laser or electrolysis in this area.

If it really bothers you, Laser hair removal would be your best bet. I get the odd stray hair myself and just wax them or pluck them out. Laser would get rid of them permanently, many beauty salons do it. It's pricey, but would be worth the money if the hair bothers you.

    You're a mammal. It happens.

You don't see it often, because it's common in our culture to remove them, not because they aren't very common.

i have the same thing aswell so dont worry at all! its common between us all!

can i just ask something that is kinda on topic but kinda off aswell [its to do with inappropriate hair] but i have a few hairs on my bum area - again like hairy help i dont know if this is normal or not

does everyone just wax all back there aswell - i would be mortified i think saying it to someone! i take care of it and all with hair removal cream but sure its grows back :( would laser be the same for that area?

    hmmm i hate it!

I don't think a bloke would have a problem with some nipple/naval hair. Infact i don't mind a women with some underarm, nipple/naval hair. If i like someone i really wouldn't care and i'd imagine most blokes wouldn't have an issue with it.

Body hair is natural but we tend to shave it off because of media pressure, expectations of how we should look but its all b o l l o x.

i'm working in a spa where they do laser hair removal and i can promise you we have tons of women coming in getting nipples lasered along with every other body part imaginable. it's completely normal and any therapists doing laser hair removal have seen it all before so you have absolutely nothing at all to be embarrassed about! :)

Be careful with using harsh treatments on sensative parts of your body.

Thanks guys. So could anyone tell me whether laser or electrolysis would be more suitable?

Can anyone recommend a good laser clinic in Dublin or alternatively a good place that does electrolysis. Yes Victor you are right it is a sensitive area so I would like to go somewhere that has a good reputation. :)

I've had both laser hair removal & electrolysis - defo recommend laser - it's faster & less painfull & has more permanent results. But it is more expensive...
