Hey following discussion on this thread http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055314897
it was suggested by xavi6 that a way to reinvigorate this forum would be to have a band of the week thread.

this is the place to nominate the first band, who will be decided b midnight tonight,

Subsequent band threads will be released every monday morning,
and will include samples of songs. videos and discussions.

Please nominate a band and a reason why - eg new album just out, touring in ireland or just an amazing band that more people should discover

i would like to nominate Of Montreal, as I think they are excellent but under-rated.

I'd like to nominate Errors, a Glasgow-based Electronica/Indie band. I discovered them after DIS reviewed their new album "It's Not Like Something But It Is Like Whatever" and gave it 8/10 url]http://www.drownedinsound.com/release/view/13219[/url. The album is instrumental except for one track, 'Cutlery Drawer', which uses samples by George Pringle (not a dude, and DEFINITELY not the dude on packs of Pringles :pac:). The album has plenty of delicious synth and is influenced by the likes of Battles and Fvck Buttons.

    'Pump' (track only)

whatever you fancy, i'd like this thread to bring some lesser known bands to my (and of course others) attention.

Fleet Foxes are a band on the up - great melodies and vocal harmonies.
if you like stuff like Grizzly Bear you should like them.

I'd like to nominate Final Fantasy

Final Fantasy is Owen Pallett, probably most famous for his string work with Arcade Fire.

Most of his gigs are just him with his violin and a loop pedal.

Here's some of his stuff (sorry the live recordings aren't the greatest quality):

    That's When The Audience Died:

The CN Tower Belongs To The Dead:

This Is The Dream of Win And Regine:

    This Modern Love (Bloc Party):

Let's not let this slip away, I think it's a great idea we should keep going with!

For the sake of bumping the thread, I'll nominate The Shins, but maybe someone can come up with something more new and exciting!

Ok excellent, I set this up but the problem I have is that I can not edit my first post here for some reason,
I would like to have a link to each of the bands chosen each week, anyway we will go with the shins for now, but please provide more suggestions for next week.

I made a 'Previous Bands of the Week' thread, so hopefully the powers that be will sticky it along with the 'Previous Albums..." thread.

As in 'The Shin' instead of 'The Shins' (implying there's only one person)
