Been there! Had my Nuvi 300 stolen 2 weeks back, got to claim for it on the household insurance.

    MemoryC in Celbridge will do ya a Nuvi250 for €154 + €5 shipping or a Nuvi200W for €171 + €5

You can save yourself the €5 shipping by collecting it yourself.

I had a 300 robbed 18 months ago. I replaced it with a 250 and I now use the security feature so that a PIN is required when the unit is switched on, that way if the unit is robbed it will be unusable as it can only be unlocked by sending it back to Garmin which is something a thief is unlikely to do.

Just as an aside to anyone browsing this thread, current.gpx is the file on the 200 series (and possibly others...) that holds the favourites that have been saved, a useful file to have backed up somewhere in the event of a unit being stolen. It means you can transfer all your favourites to the new unit.

Had my 250W stolen a few months back, hope the scumbag dies roaring.

Makes you wonder about all those taxi drivers using GPS these days. I asked one of them where he bought it and yes you've guessed it, he bought it from a guy who was 'upgrading' to another unit.

Remember all those lovely car radios that people bought in pubs back in the 70s and 80s or from 'the brother'? Their ghosts are back as satnavs.

Just saw the 200W for 170 euros in PC World as a special.
Are they any good? I was thinking of getting one. What drawbacks has it?

The 200(w) is a 'regional' model meaning that in this part of the world it will only have Ireland and the UK, go for the 250(w) which has all of Europe instead or if you plan to visit the US the 270(w) has both North AMerica (US & Canada) and Europe. The 'w' suffix as you're probably aware indicates widescreen.

Xtravision are selling the 250 for 199.99 but if you check these websites you'll get it a lot cheaper. www.elara.ie are out in Park West and you can pickup, the other sites ship from outside Ireland.

With the 200W can you get maps for Europe later from the web or do they limit it's functionality to only Ireland and Britain? I don't think I'll be driving in Europe soon.

It might be possible but you'd have to buy a DVD that would cost a packet - well over the difference betwene the price of a 200 v. 250 so if there's any possibility that you'd need the Europe maps then you're better off buying the 250.

Thanks for all that info. I think I have enough to make a decision now.
