    Just wondering what is the best bank for saving accounts and also current(the banks can be diferent for both)??

    That's a good question. You're right, different banks target their audience in different ways. Some have good loan rates, others give good savings interest and so on. I'm going to say AIB just for the simple reason that they offer the laser card option from the start. They're not too bad for savings either and better then those pretenders from Rabobank. Not too far behind would be BOI and Ulster TBH. As for Halifax, expect to jump through many hoops to get what you need to get done.

    One factor to consider - even in these days of online banking - is the closeness of a local branches. There may be something you need to do that involves going in person - so you don't want the nearest branch to be miles away.
    Apart from that - if interest rates are your main criteria - then Halifax give you 10% on your current account and 5.15% on savings (first 10k). Northern Rock (onlin only) gve 5% on balancesover 1k
    Be aware - some banks still charge for some current account transactions - or you have to perform certain number of transactions to avoid them. (AIB and BOI for example) .
