What is gravity and has any one discovered the particle carrier for this force

Well has anybody come close to unraveling the mysteries of Gravity. Does string theory give us any further insight in to this force. Are we looking in the right direction for this force, i.e. Is gravity more of a push that a pull? Who is leading the way in this research? It sure ain't me!!
