    Hiya,

Thinking of heading to Israel for a week or so during July/August. Want to go see some of the religious sights but don't want to be constantly on the go either. Has anyone been there and have any recommendations?

    Tks

Yes, I've been there. If you've got one week, I'd see Jerusalem, Bethlehem (not far from Jerusalem), and then a trip further afield to, say, the Dead Sea. Or if you want a nice coastal resort, Netanya.

You could spend a week in the Jerusalem area alone, and just go off for day trips, as it is not actually a big country.

Lived there for a year, would advise you its only 5hrs from north to South so you can relax but as before the main attrations Jerusalem , would only stay there for a visit as its very commercialised. Herzilia and Netanya are lovely for relaxing in the evening. also try get to Gallilee, its fantastic.

been there a good few times! lots of places to see, obviously in Jerusalem especially in the old city, Nahariya is another nice seaside resort (about 5 miles from the Lebanese border), if you want the more up-beat resort - Eilat used to be a popular place(Southern-most place in israel). The bus system is pretty good and as already been pointed out the country is small enough to travel. If your into ancient stuff you could go to Megido supposed to be the site of Amrageddon some good views from there, another would be Massada about 40 miles south of Jerusalem or Acre near the north of Israel - ancient sea port.
You may run out of time in a week!
    :)

I was in Tel Aviv last November for a few days, had a great time.

Four of us jumped in a taxi to Jerusalem, driver brought us to the Holocaust museum and the Wailing Wall (if we wanted he'd have taken us to Bethlehem) and back to Tel Aviv for a bout €110 which was a bargain IMO.

Hi. If you can try and get to the Dead Sea - its brilliant. really fun floating in the water and not sinking. Its the lowest place on earth as well. Our group stopped off at the Ein Gedi Spa on the way back from Masada and had a great afternoon there. Mud baths and hydropools. excellent fun.

Tiberias in Galilee is fantastic and the Dead Sea is a must. There is a great wildlife park across the road from the Dead Sea. If in Jerusalem try to visit Hezakiahs tunnel!!!
