NTL Movies and PIN - Help!

    Hi all,

Having good fun at the moment trying to get my first HTPC up and running - hard work but fun.

One issue I've come up with: I have subscribed to SKY movies (via my NTL digital subscription), but between 5:30am and 8 pm there's a requirement to put in a PIN to protect all the kiddies from the bad things that Sky show. Because of this, all the movies I've recorded are rubbish since Vista Media Centre knows nothing about the PIN.

I've asked NTL and apparently they can't get around this, as the PIN requirement comes from Sky, not from them.

Is there *any* way to get around this, or to instruct Vista MCE to put in the PIN (but only some of the time)? Help!

    Thanks,

    Sparx

    *bump*

Has no-one seen this problem? No-one running a HTPC with NTL digital and a Sky movies subscription?

MCE can't send command to the STB via the connection that you are using. you can get cables that control your STB via serial (RS232) but I don't think you can program MCE to use a pin at certain times. you might need to use mediaportal.

To clarify - I'd be happy to lock all of the channels on NTL, which means I'd have to input a PIN all the time. So I suppose the question I'm asking is whether I can modify MCE to always send the PIN to the STB after it changes the channel.

    Any help appreciated...

    try this

    1) Go into the 'Locked Channels' section of the 'Settings' Menu. You will need the PIN for this bit
    2) Move down to the movie channels and lock the channel and then unlock it again.
    3) Do this for each of the required channels.
You should now be able to switch between the movie channels without a PIN as if they were any other channel.
