    Course not!

Forget about it being a credit card charge, it's a travel mega bargain. I've just booked 2 return flights to London for €16.04 in total. That's €8 for a return flight, it's about the price of a couple of drinks.

just checked it out, no option for Maestro card.

16 euro return for 2 is not bad though :)

Would I be right in saying you can do the online check in up to 4 days before the departure? (so i can check in for the return flight before I leave!?)

I have never been able to use Laser to book on Ryanair. It doenst give you the option when I try and book using Laser.

I always use my friends Visa Electron card when booking with Ryanair as there is no credit card charge with that.

Erm, Ryaniar don't accept Laser cards because they don't make money from them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,736 ✭✭✭ch750536

    Ryanair do not accept laser.

Some time back they wanted to charge a fee for laser, which they were not allowed to.

They then changed the booking system to charge a 'Handling Fee' rather than a CC fee, this way they can charge per flight pp.

By this time ryanair had made the political decision not to back laser.

can i fly anywhere other than uk?

    like that bremen place?

I have never been able to pay it with Laser so going on what fl4pj4ck said I decided to go and see.

    http://www.ryanair.com/site/EN/faqs.php?sect=pnr&quest=payments

How can I pay for my flights?

Ryanair accept Visa and Mastercard credit cards and the following debit cards Switch, Visa Connect, Visa Debit Electron & Visa Delta for payment of your flights.

Within Germany ONLY, we accept EURO ELV Direct Debit payments. ELV Direct Debits can only be accepted on www.ryanair.com or via Ryanair's German call centre if there is a minimum of 10 days prior to your flight departure.

Ryanair are known to put up prices when they see you interested in a flight. When you come back to look at the flight, the prices go up. Is this not illegal though?

I don't think so, I think all travel related web sites do this, not just the airlines. For example the hotel booking sites, car hire etc... I'd say it's not just your IP address either, they record and aggregate all search enquires too, even if you don't book and pay for the flight, so they can monitor demand. I think it's based on total demand for particular dates searched for and actually booked. Then the IP address is used to identify the country you're in, sometimes giving different rates depending on the country and the demand.

no joy with it at all!

Is there a charge for a Halifax visa debit cards, if so how much?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,807 ✭✭✭chump

I got one totally free return flight yesterday (just CC charge)
And one that was 9.99 incl taxes each way plus CC charge.

    Not bad to be fair.

I don't think you can be complaining if you get any return flight for less than 100euro, never mind less than 30euro.

anyone else finding the ryanair website mad slow!! when u go to get the flights and dates it loads really slow. worse that 56k! dunno is there a massive loads of people on or their website is gone weird!

  • Users Awaiting Email Confirmation Posts: 371 ✭✭Traffic

    From FR Website:

Ryanair Booking Site - Flight Booking System Slow
Due to system problemS, access to our flight booking system is currently slow. Please note, that it may take up to 30-60 seconds to move from page to page during the flight booking process. Although, the booking process is slower than normal, bookings can be completed, but the delivery of the confirmation travel itinerary may be delayed.

During this time we recommend that all customers write down their flight confirmation number and flight details when the flight confirmation page is displayed on the PC screen.

N.B. Please note that there may also be delays with the bank authorisation system, if the flight confirmation number displayed on your PC has the words NOT CONFIRMED written underneath. Then you should wait several minutes and retrieve your booking by entering the flight confirmation number and credit/debit card number into the View Booking option in the Manage My Booking section on the Ryanair.com homepage.

    https://www.bookryanair.com/SkySales/FRManageBooking.aspx?culture=EN-GB

From here you will see if the booking status is either:

NOT CONFIRMED-This means we are still awaiting approval for the payment from the bank you should review the booking again later to see if the flight is confirmed.

CONFIRMED-This means that the payment has been approved and an email travel itinerary will now be sent to the email address provided in the booking at the time of reservation.

IF YOU ARE UNABLE TO RETRIEVE YOUR BOOKING AND AN ERROR MESSAGE IS DISPLAYED - This means that the payment was not approved by the bank and the flights in the reservation have been cancelled.

Ya, but how much did they charge you for check in, baggage, and sneaky insurance, and presume you had tax & charges on top of these too??

There are no taxes on a lot of flights, that's what the sale is about

I got a return flight to Edinburgh for 18 euro. 9.99 was the cost of the flight out, 0.01c was the total cost of the flight back to Dublin. 8 euro credit card fee.

I never check in baggage with Ryanair and I never take their insurance as my credit card gives me free travel insurance. I check in online and print my boarding pass which saves me 4 euro and a lot of time queueing at the check-in desk at the airport.

In comparison, the cheapest flight to Edinburgh i've ever seen with Aer Lingus was 60 euro.

am I gone senile? I don't seem to have the option to pick insurance bags etc? they added wheelchair insurance or some nonsense by default

[edit]oops, it was on the payment page! The hoors have doubled the price of infants to €40 though[/edit]

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,630 ✭✭✭Oracle

That's true eth0, the trick with Ryanair is, you gotta play their system to get the deal. That means:

    * Being flexible on dates and times.
    * Only bringing hand baggage.
    * Checking-in online.
    * Don't take Ryanair insurance, select "no insurance" from the drop down box.

Anyway last day of the free flight sale is today, ends at midnight tonight.

  • Moderators, Arts Moderators Posts: 35,731 Mod ✭✭✭✭pickarooney

'Free' flights cost 220 euros in the end for 2 + baby. Just as well the boss is covering half of it + accommodation in London ;)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,293 ✭✭✭MayoForSam

Yeah, you got to play the system to win with Ryanair - 4 of us are off on holidays with Ryanair in two weeks time, it made more sense to make 2 separate bookings (one for myself and the young fella with checked-in bags, airport check-in , the other online check-in, hand baggage only for my wife and daughter).

This saves us on charges plus two of us get free priority boarding (although they are since charging for this) so they can hold seats for the other two on board.

As regards this offer, booked for the 4 of us to go Knock-Stansted return in November for €32 euro, a €240 saving compared to going a few days later at the weekend. Thanks OP!

Good for you MayoForSam, enjoy your holiday. Another gotcha with Ryanair is the 15Kg baggage allowance that's not poolable. Simply put it means it can't be shared between everyone on the booking:
The checked baggage allowance is 15kg per person (no infant allowance).
No pooling/sharing of baggage allowances is permitted, even for passengers travelling together on the same reservation.
The workaround here is to simply make sure no bag weights more than 15Kg at home, you can use your bathroom scales, and if it does distribute the weight between your checked in bags. Allocating each checked in person one bag. Remember any children (other than infants) checking in have a full baggage allowance. Don't assume the check in staff will let you through anyway, they probably won't, and I'd say don't risk it. I've heard of many people being caught by this, including by sister, and the Ryanair excess baggage fees can work out quite expensive.

Is the site working ok? I try and search for flights but it won't load the next page.
Could just be me though. Anybody else having trouble?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,630 ✭✭✭Oracle

Hi mods, can someone edit this thread title to expired because the offer is finished, thanks.

There are still free "no taxes or charges" flights to the UK, from Dublin and Shannon, but they are now for travel between 1st Oct 08 and 31st Jan 09.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,039 ✭✭✭jpfahy

Ryanair have really shot themselves in the foot with their new Website.
When you see a notice on the front page about the site being slow you know there's a huge problem that they can't fix.
I'd say O'Leary if fuming over it - I'd hate to be the poor incompetents that designed it. Bet they didn't get paid.
When you click thru and read the apology it doesn't exactly inspire confidence in booking online, bad bad news for Ryanair in these difficult times.

I bet it was students on an internship who did it. It doesn't look very professional at all. You'd think the very two things Ryanair wouldn't skimp on would be their means of making money (their booking system) and their planes.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,630 ✭✭✭Oracle

I see it differently, the Ryanair web site is deliberately designed to look cheap and tacky. The medium is the message; it's the internet equivalent of Las Vegas with blinking signs, brightly coloured banners, flash animation and gawdy advertisements. It's crammed with too much information, it looks cluttered and it's difficult to find what you want, but it works, and very well. Ryanair want to be the cheap and cheerful option for flying, and the web site reflects this perfectly.

Their having trouble with the booking system now, but I've been on the site many times and it's almost always up and running. Think about the amount of time you spend on the Ryanair web site. It's probably a lot longer than on other travel web sites. For a site that you just book a flight on, there's a huge linger factor just because there's so much on the home page. They actually benefit from the inefficient way it's designed. Not to mention it's probably the most profitable web site on the internet.
