    Hey guys,

Does anyone know where I can get a set of kettle bells? I was using them when I was over in Southampton, and I think I've become a wee bit addicted. :D

    Many thanks,

    Rob.

    That's great.... Much appreciated :).

What kind of KG do people use for routines (Sorry, I know if a bit of a broad question)? I've done a bit of weights in the past, but I'm just wondering what combo of weights I should buy.

Any info would be great, thanks.

Thanks John. I'll grab a pair of 16's then.

Would it also be advisable to get the next weight after that or beyond, for a heavier routine?

    Thanks again,

    Rob.

Hey Baggio, have a look at the ones in Argos before buying as they are very small for the weight and make some of the KB stuff a little bit more difficult to perform whereas the ones Jason (3Kings) sells are much better. Those are the ones available from John Kavanagh which I presume would be the closest to you.

    Thanks for that advise Dave.:)

Op, i'd definitley reccomend the irish lifting bells, thats where I got mine, those argos ones look a bit rubbish to me.

    Alright amigos

Johns right the long cycle is a savage work out but to be honest its a bit of an advanced movement, even with the 16kgs but times that by two and at 32kg that`s a load of work on the body if you don´t have the correct form ?

So if youer looking the correct form,Im happy to help to out.Im in the jungles of Brasil at the moment,so when Im back I´ll be up for running a course. As I´ll be off to LAtvia to train again in August.

Just drop me a line on jason3kings@googlemail.com

    or

    All the best..........J

Thanks for the bumps for irish-lifting.com. Nice timing aswell, if anyone wants a real functional workout I am getting a container tomorrow morning with 27 tonnes of weights including 5 tonnes of kettlebells which all have to be unloaded by hand...

Got mine From Mickk, good quality and a good size!

The thick handles work the grip something fierce, these are proper cast bells with a rubber base plate so you don't wreck the wooden floors! :D

Seriously, doing the same movement with a dumbbell doesn't give the same feel or effort, the weight flipping about an axis removed from your fist adds so much torsion and flex it's not the same movement any more!

I am not saying that KB work is a replacement for standard weights work either, but it's worth adding if you want to add "functional strength" to "brute strength" ;)

These give you a beasting in a short time frame, more of an aerobic and anaerobic workout in five minutes, ideal for family men and people who "just don't have time to train"!

Get one, a 16 for most men or a 12? for the ladies. Try a few minutes of just swings and high pulls. If you are not puffing like an asthmatic steam train after two minutes you can drop the bells at my gaff and never have to see them again! ;)

    Hey Musashi,

    Hope you're keeping well?

Cheers for the info - yep, I'm definitely going to get a couple. Just waiting until I get paid on the 26th :D So only a few more days.

I tried out a 24kg Kettlebell last week over in Southampton - bit heavy for me though! :) For the UC grading we had to lift KB's for 5-7 minutes, then a couple of ATP drills, and that was befores the "stress test"!

Not bad at all Baggio mate, 24kg? I have one but it's not seeing much action! :D

I have a 32kg on the way from Mick, that's a monster bell! I like them for days I can't get to the gym/not got much time to train. I can go out and be fecked in ten minutes! Doesn't take much more on a good day mind, but they are good and a bit different which never hurts when your trying to motivate yourself to train.

Yep, that's sounds like the type of workout I'm after. I must admit that I was starting to feel it after only 7 mins of lifting, and that as only a 16kg one.:D

I'm also afraid of dropping one on my foot!:D

    Lads,

How are you all keeping, good I hope?

    Kettlebells:

    Buying them:

The Powerseekers that are availible from A.I.K.L.F. (Jason Kelly) are excellent, as they are universal in size through all the weights. They are competition kettlebells hence they are expensive.

The Kettlebells availible from Star Fitness (Colm) or Irish Lifting (Mick)are probably the best value for money out there at the minute, and do sell out as quick as they come in.

    Training:

Depending what you want?? For what most of the lads on this forum need, Mick Coup has it nailed, he has different variations on classic exercises and routines that are all geared towards one thing - Power generation for impact.
As you know I am hosting Mick for his 3rd installment of Core Combatives on the 5th and 6th of July in Little Island Cork.

He will demonstrate his take on kettlebells, and show specifics for power generation. Anyone who has been fortunate enough to train with Mick will know, he generates massive power, so the results speak for them self, getting hit by Mick (I know, believe me, I know) is like getting hit by an express train.

Anyone who wishes to come and train with Mick for the weekend is more than welcome, besides the kettlebell he is over specifically to do:

Foundation Tactics, Tools and Skills - this refers to the essential 'hard skills' material required for combat management at the most basic level, always requirement based - not just a collection of 'dirty tricks' and favourite techniques. It will be a revision as opposed to the full package.
Anti-grappling Applications - high-percentage tactics to enable the individual to continue fighting and prevent becoming incapacitated, over-powered and vulnerable to third party attackers.
Positional and Situational Adaptations - methods of adapting body-mechanics, and utilising the environment, to overcome the limitations of disadvantaged situations, such as when seated, or grounded, or otherwise restricted.
Offensive and Counter-Offensive Tactics - applying the above under controlled circumstances, using stress and duress to pressure-test and confirm effect, and identify limitations to address.
Threat Management Strategies - an introduction to the 'big-picture' concerning awareness and avoidance methods, the vital 'soft skills' that reduce the risk of personal danger from hostile individuals.

I'll leave on this note, I see seminars being advertised all the time, Mr. X €100-00 10am to 1pm, Mr. Y €80-00 from 10am to 2pm........

Mick Coup - “REALITY BASED SELF DEFENCE EXPONENT OF THE YEAR 2007”, €150-00 for 2 days, (2 full days, no padding) Value for money? enough said...

I can be contacted on 087 9376069, if anyone has any questions.

    David.
