my current glasses were bought from specsavers but i need to buy new ones. is specsavers the best option or is it worth considering vision express or other sellers.

im not too happy with specsavers customer service but they do have 2 for 1 offers.

if anyone has any suggestions id appreciate them

Get your prescription somewhere that you trust and then work out your budget and work from there.
Vision express can be horribly expensive but have some lovely frames, specsavers are cheap and there is the 2 for 1 offers.
It is down to finding a pair that you like that suit your budget.

i'm in the market for new frames too, really unhappy with what is offered so i've decided to go browsing online - you can get different frames made in different places and have them ordered and delivered straight to you. right now i'm looking into montreal brand "fysh". not too sure if i want to go with them, but i am certainly looking for a change.

I'd recommend trying on frames in your local opticians, taking down the model numbers of the ones that suit and then ordering on line - much better value, especially if you need hi index lenses. All you need is a copy of your perscription and you're good to go! I saved almost 200 euro last week... happy days!

My advice: go online. Get an eye test so your prescription is up to date and try on what they have in the shops. I've got my last few pairs from http://zennioptical.com and http://goggles4u.com . I just bought a pair of these (went for a different lens shape to the one in the picture) and I'm 100% satisfied with the quality. I think I'm now less worried about losing my glasses or getting them scratched because I have spare pairs and can always buy more at E20-E30 a go. Also, the extras that usually drive up the price like anti-reflective coatings and extra-thin lenses or tinting are much cheaper and sometimes included. Usually take about two weeks to arrive, but you can wait that long for glasses from an optician too.

Some of the websites aren't fantastic but the glasses are as good as any I've got from a main street optician, and at the prices, I don't mind if I end up with a pair every now that I don't like - I can leave them in my sports bag or the office or car. The problem online is narrowing down the choice so you need to have some idea what you're looking for, but you can usually limit the site's range by size or style. You are to an extent ordering blind but I was never that good at picking in the shop either and either rushed the decision or just took the advice of the assistant. I also found it helpful to measure the lenses on my old pairs and note the sizes of frames in shops that suited me (usually there's a few numbers printed on the inside of one arm).

All good and well what if there is a problem with the prescription ie company make it up wrong? what if your frame develops a fault in 6 months? What's the turnaround time?

Out of curiosity what index lens lens did you get and how much did you pay for them. I want to compare

UltraX Super Thin 1.74 index lenses with Anti-reflection, Scratch resistance & Full UV Protection - with a pair of Prada frames came to 260 euro, compared to 450 odd in local opticians. Delivery was quicker than opticians also - 2 and a half weeks including shipping rather than 3 weeks in store - my perscription means I'm always waiting for glasses back so its not a big deal. The website I used gives a money back guarantee if you are not happy with glasses within 7 days - but I'm not sure what the story is if they break after 6 months. I was a bit dubious at first but was well happy with the end result.

    I got mine from vision2you.co.uk

The high index lenses also 1.74 were alot cheaper then the shops and I got lovely karen millen frames for less then half the vision express price.

I love them and they are perfect!

I am used to waiting ages for lenses in specsavers but it was just as quick if not quicker getting them online.

E-bay, definitely for frames. Got a pair of Oakley's for €50. Bring them to your optician after your eye test then.

Always had my prescriptions done in McGiveney Nolan's on Henry Street but they've moved and changed to Urban Eyecare on Bachelor's Walk. McGiveney Nolan's always gave me top class results, far better than I got with Vision Express and two years afterwards, I could see better than friends who had gotten new glasses a week previously.
