I have a se k800i and am using Gmail imap on the in built email client. I have the o2 250mb add-on so i'm not worrying about per kb charges. Any ideas how much data in a day push email would use? I'm just worried if it were a megabyte or so, that would be a fair chunk of my allowance over a month.

    Well,
you should be able to set the retrieval to header only - so you see what was sent by who BEFORE you download the entire mail!!! The headers shouldn't make a dent in your allowance! Most email clients for mobile devices do that by default, but you can always check in settings that only headers are retrieved or only e.g. 5 kb per message... Clicking on message details before downloading tells you the size incl attachments, and you can decide to wait until you're on a pc!

one thing though - given how gmail handles threaded mails, it can get a bit messy in your inbox

Thanks, have checked it will only download headers, so i will try it out for a day or two and monitor how much data is used by just having push activated as opposed to checking for new emails manually.

I think using the gmail app is better for viewing the threaded emails, but is handy to have them physically on my phone if i'm out of coverage or roaming etc
