Hi, can anyone point me in the direction of a decent, legal, download site. I don't have an ipod, so not itunes. I am a bit wary about giving my cc details to a website I haven't heard of before. So what sites do you all use?

    Thanks

No I use it to ask music related questions. That's why it's there.

I'm old-fashioned so I still just buy CDs and rip them to MP3 myself. That way I can be sure the quality is as expected and that the tags are correct.

One site you could look at is Jamendo. It's free music by bands you more than likely won't have heard of. You can search by genre, artist or album. The quality varies quite a bit in my experience but you never know, you might find something you really like.

Jesus, someone got up on the wrong side of the bed this morning. :p I apologise if this thread has for whatever reason annoyed you, this is after hours and I asked a non work related question.

My morning ended 5 hours ago so I'm in a perfectly good mood. Thanks for the concern though. You asked a serious question and AH doesn't usually do serious so I was pointing you in the right direction where those more knowledgeable on the subject tend to reside. I'll keep quiet next time though.

You've been here long enough to know that AH is the catch-all forum for threads that are not just non-work related but also those that don't fit elsewhere.

Xavi6 was just doing you a favour by pointing out that this thread is better suited to the music forum where you are more likely to get replies that please you. Also a quick search of the music forum will bring up a couple of threads where your question has already been answered.

EDIT: On preview I see that Xavi6 got there first :)

Didn't think this would be a problem to post here. Perhaps a mod would like to lock it.

I'm in the same boat OP. Just buying CD's now as they are cheaper than the online stores, no DRM and have full quality and then I rip them with EAC. Amazon are releasing their music store this side of the world in a few months so I will be waiting to see what they offer, can only be an improvement!

    Nope, just a mod :)

No reason to lock at all. The AH mods may even leave it here if it looks like you're getting good replies and move it to music if you don't.

Are the really? I thought they were supposed to be much cheaper. Have never even tried it before, but was planning to (getting my cooooool new comp set up tomorrow), but if they are more expensive I might not bother.

    DRM ....EAC.
    What are these?

DRM = Digital rights management is an access control system which can be used to limit how you use your digital media.

For example a company can prevent you from playing your music on certain mp3 players or prevent you from transferring your music from one PC to another PC.

EAC is Exact Audio Copy. It's a freeware program for ripping CDs.

With regard to CDs being cheaper, it depends where you shop. Two online stores I use regularly and highly recommend are CDON and EMP Merchandising.

im sure there are more appropriate fora for this question.
the music forum would be good place to start, as mentioned.
