I'm running Linux on my PC & was wondering if anyone else was running a DVB-s card on Linux, and if so what software they are using?
I've tried Hauppauge & ProgDVB, but they only seem to support Windows.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It should work, I've got the DVB-T side of things working fine on Ubuntu 7.10. I use a Hauppauge 1100 card which uses a Conexant chip to do the tuning. Most of this functionality is now built directly into the kernel so it *should* be good to go out of the box. Although there is a bug in 7.10 where the module doesn't load automatically and needs to be manually loaded after I boot it.

I also have a Hauppauge 3000 hybrid card. Having no luck there on the DVB-T side of things, but I believe that the DVB-S side should be fine.

If you know the the name and model of the card you are going to use check out the following site [1] to see if what you have is supported. The second link on the list [2] contains a lot of mythtv specific stuff but if you scroll down you'll see a "testing your card" section which I found very useful.

    I'm running on Ubuntu 8.04 & the card I'm using is a Hauppauge Nexus-s.
I forget to ask also about software for operating a motor on DiSEqC 1.2.
    Thanks again for your help.

Most PCI cards can't reliably supply the motor current for many Motors.

I've tried 4 cards and 2 motors. All the set boxes 100% reliable. PC motor control without external power is erratic

I was previously had Windows installed & was using ProgDvb through this card to control the motor. Was working without a hitch. Now the PC is running solely on Linux. Is there alternative hardware which can be used just for DiSEqC 1.2 operation?

If it's simply a case of the card not supplying enough current, fit one of these inline:

If the Diseqc signals are also crap:

    Thanks for all the replies.
The DiSEqC controller looks the right job.
There is no problem between the card on the motor, Just finding software for Linux to control the motor. It used work OK on Windows with ProgDvb, but between one thing & another I no longer use windows.

    Thanks again all.

Kaffeine Player seems to have options for a motor, or "rotor". I don't have one myself so I can't say if it works or not.

I had a trawl through some old bookmarks - mostly VDR related:

Rotor - diseqc plugin for VDR

    Actuator - for 36V motors
