Looking at hotel deals in ebookers.ie for Boston and it is much cheaper to book a hotel in June July August than in October which i would have thought was off season. Am I looking to far in advance as the deals in the summer are half that of last week in October.

Depends on what you want to do.

You can always go to a hotels website and book a room that can be cancelled usually just the day before or even before noon on the scheduled day of arrival.

In the meantime -you can continue to look for deals in the knowledge that you have a room in case nothing else turns up.

I'm surprised that you are see'ing much of a difference in rates to be honest anyway.
You should try a few hotels and a few different dates in October as it's possible that you've picked a convention weekend at a particular hotel or something thereby reducing the cheaper room availability.

October is peak time around Boston because of the Fall Foliage - always going to be expensive from September - November all along the north-east coast of the States then....
