Hey I want to save up a few thousand euro during the summer and I only have a part-time job so I'm trying to think of other ways of making a bit of cash. I'd appreciate if anyone had any ideas or experiences to share! :)

A second job would be the most likely way to earn you cash. If you're feeling adventurous you could try prostitution or giving your bank details to that rich Nigerian king who keeps emailing me. Five million euro guaranteed!

I think I should be offended thats the second time prostitution has been suggested :p
I'm trying to find something with flexible hours like delivery flyers which I can fit in around my fixed job.

flyer delivery and that type of work tends to be low paid and pretty draining.....you might be better off finding some part time work in local tesco/supervalu..etc - not suggesting that type of work is easy, but IMO would be better to work in a single local on a reasonable hourly rate than be out in the elements for a pittance!

Well the job I just got is a bit like that anyway so unless i can get a big increase in my hours i have to do something more flexible really.

Do you drive? deliver chips or pizza is pretty flexible i imagine. Know a guy who used to do it and said the money was grand.

Your supposed to notify your insurance company if you start doing deliveries with your own car... and change it to cover business

Your insurance is usually restricted to social, domestic and pleasure and not for Business Purposes

Ever see those ads asking offering X amount of money for stamping and addressing 100 letters a week or something? Its something I've always intended looking into to see if its genuine and worthwhile. Because i'm a second level student I ain't licenced to drive.... cars that is, I intend saving up a few grand this summer also... for flying lessons! :D:cool:
Another project i'm working on is building a website to try make some money, I do have a part time job so once I get these exams over with the money making will begin!! I'd be interested in hearing more suggestions though! :)

Yeah I'm finishing up the leaving so need to start getting money together for college and a car would be handy especially in winter and stuff. How would you intend making money out of the website when its set up? Advertising? I'll look into your first suggestion though and let you know if I find anything.

Advertisements on the webpage, yep. The more hits the more money. I havent anything setup yet because as I say, exams not finished for me till tomorrow evening. You probably need ALOT of hits before you start making anything worth talking about though. Link to one way of advertising.

After that I'm all out of ideas! There are ads in the Galway advertiser each week for the envelope job, the address is limerick though. Do let us know what the deal is there if you find out! ;)

Well I'm in Dublin. Anything I can find is to do with businesses now using computers for that sort of thing so not looking promising.

just for the record those envelope stuffing jobs are a well known scam. years ago companies apparently did offer money for people to stuff envelopes but not in the last decade or so. nowadays what this consists of is a company ask you for X amount to set yourself up as an envelope stuffer. then when you have signed up, instead of sending you envelpes to stuff, they send you a list of companies that might require your services that you have to contact. (which none of them ever actually do want your service). so in other words a kind of registration fee. (or a tax on greed maybe?)

anyways, there is no such thing as easy money. (except maybe that prostitution idea someone had earleir). someone did put together a list of work from home jobs some time ago which was very good. but there were no 'easy money' jobs. you had to do the work and you got paid for what you did. there was nothing easy about it. except maybe the fact that because you would be working from home you could watch Oprah and the Steve Wilko show.

I never said I was looking for easy money, I am willing to work for it just has to be flexible.

Just a little OT but where are you planning on going to college, as if it's in the City center a car is pretty useless as you will have nowhere to park, so the extra job may not be needed.

my apologies, i didnt mean to imply that you were. i was just commenting on the 'envelope stuffing' jobs that keep getting brought up. the free money wasnt aimed towards you or anyone else. i was just saying in general there is no such things as free money. i think at some stage we have all gone looking for those roles that we can do in our spare time that might help bring in the extra few quid. but any of them that i have come across that arent a scam usually turn out to be as much, if not more, hard work than a full time job. the only difference is that you have the comfort of working from home.

Get a job working in the RDS for the week of the horse show.
They take on hundreds of extra staff that week and you would be
working upto 80hours that week at around 10€ph or more if you
    have experience.

Its tough work as there are around 250,000 people at the event
over 4 days. You spend the other days getting everything ready etc...

Not easy money, but quick money. :)

yeah true. I was hoping to get a full time job but ended up with a part-time which would be very convenient for college so don't want to lose it for the sake of a couple of months.

The only advice I can give you is to be ready for the costs required to run a car. Everyone says "Im saving up for a car and insurance" but thats only the start of it. things like petrol, road tax, oil eat into your wallet.

I know yeah thats why I don't want to take out a loan cause I'll need my current income to cover costs like that.
