Could anyone advise me on a decent bottle of red wine I could buy as a present, without breaking the bank. I've heard Wolfe Blass is meant to be good, but was looking for some other opinions. Thanks!

What price range are you thinking of?

    First question is: Price range?
Not a whole lot under €10. But loads between €10 and €20.
Over €20 there are good wines, but not everyone will apreciate them.

If you are looking for a reliable wine btween €10 and €20 there are loads of Aussie wines - Wolf Blass, Hardys, etc. Not the most exciting wines, but reliably good reds.

Merlot is smooth, and Cab Sav a bit spicier - often a blend of the two is good. Or try a Shiraz.

    Good Luck!

Montepulciano d'Abruzzo is a lovely red wine- you can buy it for €9.99 in O'Briens see link attached http://www.obrienswine.ie/groups.aspx?productid=07WITA036&groupid=36

Thats my tip of the day! Enjoy :)

    Must try that myself :)

If OP is not near an O'Briens good priced wine is Wyndham Estate Bin 555, you can often get it on special offer 2 for €20 - decent, drinkable wine.

Definately a good recommendation. This is a very enjoyable wine. You also have to factor in if the person you are presenting this to will appreciate it, in which case I would go with the €10 a bottle very drinkable's such as your hardy's, lindemans, wyndhams, wolf blass, santa rita, even montes special reserve or concha y toro is hard to beat. Anything from this range can be considered safe.
If they really know their reds be prepared to go €30 - €60 abottle.
I think everyone knows the price and quality of Faustino 1 so dont be stuck as a last resort.
