no, the only decent tournament you can get in galway is the 100euro freezeout in the eglinton on wednesdays, the rest of the tournaments are either small fields or just rebuy fests, but 100euro is a bit much for me

Thats not a good structure either. There is no well structured weekly tournament in Galway at the moment anywhere.

And there are two casinos in Galway. The eglinton and the 4aces. Afaik they are currently doing up the 4aces in sections(so as to remain open) and it should be a really nice place when it is finished.
Hopefully when its finished it will lead to a much better selection for the customer as you will have two attractive venues competing with each other.

Even that starts with 100bb and 30 min levels doesn't it?

Two places I've supplied tables & chips to are City Limits in Oranmore & the Skeffington on Eyre Square.

Don't know the days / times / structures though.

I don't know what you guys expect for €100!!:(

7000 starting stack 25min levels, as it is the tourney usually doesn't finish till 3/4am. I certainly don't want longer levels or more of them.

Sure ,if I was paying a higher entry fee i'd like a longer structure, but def not for €100 on a Wednesday night!!!

I think the tourney is a good one, there is always plenty of play involved.

im a regular in the eglinton but sometimes i just want the pub atmosphere. anyway its true that the tournaments in the city are poor and worse yet the 2 e100 freezeouts are both on wednesday night. it would be great if the 4 aces moved their one to friday night.

Does anyone know the weekly tournament schedule in the 4 aces at the minute. they all start at 9 but you could walk in any given night and be faced with playing very different tourneys. website 4aces please!

Anyway going back to the point of the thread - pub poker, anyone willing to share?

I recall there being poker in many pubs in galway, enough so you could play every night in one. It was pokerevents that did it, maybe it has stopped. MAssimos had one on mondays, one in salthill had on wednesdays, can't recall...

www.pokerevents.ie site is being done up at the moment. But it had a listing of where events were run

If you're a regular at the Eglinton I think your best bet is to ask Fintan next time you're in. I live outside town so am not too sure of the Pub gigs in the city.

The only ones I know for def are

    Turloughmore on a Thursday
    spiddal on a Wednesday

    :)

    closed sunday & monday.
    tuesday 10 euro unlimited rebuys.
    wednesday 100euro fo.
thursday 35euro entry. 2 rebuys at 10euro each. double top up for 25 euro. friday 80 euro fo.
    saturday 50 euro 1 rebuy 50 euro.

massimos on monday and the office pub in salthill on thursdays used to have poker tourneys. dont think either do anymore. tbh i hate pub tourneys, much prefer playing in a casino.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,810 ✭✭✭✭jimmii

I'd i'magine its come up plenty of times but is there any reason why they all start at 9 instead of earlier? I would imagine the thought of playing until 3/4am puts off a good few people.

Do both Wednesday games have the same structure does anyone know? I would love to see a really good structure for a lunch time game on a Saturday. People might normally give it a miss to watch the football but with the Premiership done then it should get a decent turnout.

As it was stated above The 4 Aces are doing renovations at the moment and when they are completed we will have a new tourney time table.
The Wednesday night freezeout is good, you get a 20k starting stack, no reg fee is charged either! Thursday's tournament is very popular also because of the €10 buy backs. For the past 3-4 weks we've had 2 full cash games go on till 8am, i can only imagine us getting busier and busier after the whole place is done up.

Did that replace the 35+15, still have some free entry into that from when the student thing used to run.
cash still 1/3? What size are the stacks usually?

I'm sure you can use the voucher that you have, the stacks range from 5k tonight, 20k tomorrow and 15k on Friday for the €80 freezeout.
Cash games are still €1-€3, we did have a €2-€5 on Saturday, we've been absolutely crazy busy lately. You should come in and have a look at the new room so you can see the changes we are making with the place :)

when do you expect the renovations to be completed (4aces)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,023 ✭✭✭hairyfairy00

Well the side room is complete all that has to be done is for the tables to be put in, now the 'main' room (one with roulette etc) will be closed for renovations and a cafe/restaurant will be added to the casino. We expect the further renovations to last about 3-4 weeks.

pokerkingsni we are on Dominick street, across the road from the Roisin Dubh pub.

Started at half 8 the last day, hour earlier. only had 9 guys. It's difficult to get people to play early due to work and so on. I'd play anytime if people turned up.
The 20c ante pot limit dealers choice afterwards is where the real money is!

when buying into the cash game 1/3 what is the minimum you think you should buy in for to give yourself a good chance to make some moves on a regular night in either casino

jesus if you don't know this you should not be playing 1/3

lad it all depends on each persons style of play. 250/300 is enough for me but there are some really aggressive people there who shouldnt sit down with less that 500. its not the standard doyle brunson 200xBB for everyone. it really annoys me when some clown answers a genuine question with something very stupid and then doesnt even bother to give an answer after they finish bitching.

well it seemed like a standard question to me, you never said anything about aggressive players, i wasn't bitching just saying 1/3 is a high limit not to know what to bring in, you should know if you've played lower levels which i hope you have

the €100 wednesday tourney in the eglinton is changing to a 10k starting stack with 25 min levels supposedly , that was the word on the grapevine last night in there , i havent been able to play that tourney in months due to work but i always found it to have plenty of play

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 628 ✭✭✭jacQues

    Poker in Galway eh?

First of all, there are regular friendly 20 euro rakeless pub game in P.J.'s (Lower Salthill) most Wednesdays and Fridays. No real TO, just a bounch of regulars. Usually its a freeze-out, although sometimes they include a bicycle. Its a good game and there are no crazy/clueless players. The blind levels are a tad quick, but its good fun. I used to play there a lot when I lived two doors down. :D

Secondly, the Monday night poker game is looking for a location. We have two proper (foldable) poker tables, chips and everything else needed available to borrow for free to anyone with room and time. This includes the fish as well. ;) It always gets between 8 and 16 players, starts at 8:30 pm (play starts 9pm sharp) and with dealer's choice cash after until 3am. Its always good fun, a very good structure (25 euro freeze-out with 125 BBs to start with and 25/30/35 minute blinds) and rakeless. Thus, anyone in Galway with room and time (Monday nights) please PM me so this game can continue. Mondays were chosen deliberately since its the most quiet night work-wise for many of the attendents and Galway's casino (Four aces, Upper Dominick street) is closed that day.
