Was thinking Egypt cause the flights now are cheap enough or what about heading to peru to Machu pichu.. where the flights are not so cheap???

Or does anyone have any other ideas

    Thanks a mill

Egypt will be boiling in the summer. August could be 50 degrees. If you are going to Egypt in the summer, you better have the stomach for extreme heat.

Op, you don't say how long your hols are but I presume it's two weeks in which case South America and Macchu Picchu are out. You'll most probably suffer some form of altitude sickness ranging from mildly ill to completely floored because you'll be flying from sea level to high altitude.

Thailand is very do-able in 2 weeks as long as you pick where you want to go and stick to it. Up north you can do jungle trekking or you could go to an island for 10 days or so and spend a couple of nights in Bangkok. Ko San road is a brilliant place to hang out for a day or two. After that you need to leave and see somewhere else.

Id be fine with the heat, spent the last 3 months in Africa in 41 deg's but not sure my girlfriend would.
Cambodia is class but is there any of getting there that doenst cost like 2000 euro for flights alone. If at all possible I would love to keep it to 1500m for everything

You could have a really great holiday in Egypt for 1500 (I spent 1200 euro as a backpacker in 3 months). If you go in Sept it mightn't be so hot. You could base yourself in the Red sea in one of the fancy resorts for a week - lie on beach, go to Sinai, go snorkling. Then stay in Luxor and see the sights and then Cairo for a few days. Plenty to do, you certainly won't be bored. By staying in a resort you won't see anything of the real Egypt but you'll make up for this by going to Cairo and Luxor. You don't need expensive tours either, just get a good guide book instead.

Machu Pichu was the best time of my life, but its a long way to go for a fortnight, even at 3 weeks, I'd say is pushing it considering Peru has so much to offer. Having said that, I wouldn't worry OVERLY about altitude sickness, as even if you are affected (and I refute that that's guaranteed) acclimatisation for MOST people takes only a few days, which you would want to spend in Cuzco anyway because it rocks. I set out on the trek on only my 2nd day at altitude (wasn't my choice, that's just how the timing worked out) and wasn't affected. Of the 20 or so people doing the hike, only one was seriously affected. Its not something you can legislate for, if you've got it before, you'll probably get again, if you've been above 2000m before with no ill effects, I'd say you're sorted. If you've never been at altitude, its definitely something to be aware of at least, as bad altitude sickness is a real knock out, and bad cases, though rare at moderate altitudes (2000-3500m), can a week to acclimatise fully.

I'm not Egypt's biggest fan, as I found the touts far more bothersome than mere egg frying temperatures.
