For ages they had the 24-105 down as a special along with the 17-85 as they were split form "Uk kits" but it was the same price as their normal 24-105! €999

2 days ago I noticed they've changed/fixed the price on the special and it's now a very competative €750.

I do need a good walk around lens so may be tempted.
Although on my 450D crop lens it would be 38-168, still it's cheaper now than the other contenders such as the 24-70 2.8.
Will have to find my soul now so I can sell it.....running outta funds with this expensive lense hobby!
One question, would this be ok for Pub gigs being an f/4 and all that?

The IS is super on that lens. I've maanged shots as low as 1/15 sec that are sharp, though that doesn't help much if it's action you're after.

No this one is not for action but Pub gigs and just a walkaround as such for SPWC/Docklands type fests amongst other things.
But it's the Pub test that is the deal clincher for me.

indeed it's a bargain. don't forget that there's also a Canon cash back of €60 on assumption it's EU/UK stock. so net cost is around €690. i don't see if we could get it any cheaper from any UK on-line retailer. was thinking to hold this purchase until Christmas but now... temptation... well it's sunday and they are closed...

Guess they are, especially the music I listen too.:pac:
I was thinking of Sports as the only thing as action for some reason, probs 'cos I did alot of work that side just b4 I ordered a 2.8L for Sports for that very reason.

Read stacks of reviews for the 24-105L but this short one kinda answered more than the longer reviews.

I do own a 50mm 1.4 which I use for gigs but at times I wanted more of the bands.
I was able to use the 450D kit lense at a gig b4 which was 3.5-5.6 and that seemed to manage.

I have in this post being in the pro and against camp haven't I? :o

I think if its for bands you're better off getting an f/2.8.The is will help for hand shake but you'll still have the movement from the band members as im sure they wont be standing still?

And by the way you'll find 28mm sometimes to cropped on a 1.6,im currently looking to get a "kit lens" zoom range lens as my 28-105 is too tight

I know Ricky, I missed not having a good walkaround lens yesterday though.
Conn's say that this price will not include any rebate special offers....
    Can't afford the 24-70 2.8.
I still like the overall idea length wise of the 24-105, seems to tick more boxes than the 24-70 2.8.
    I have got options for gigs.....so ...
aahh I've another 12 or so hours of reading!
