Game crop suggestions

Our local club owns a small pice of ground smack bang in the middle of the club area. We have our main release pen in it. It's about 3 acres and we've just cleaned it up with a view to sowing a game/cover crop.

I know it's gone a bit late in the year for sowing, and we still have about two weeks work left to do, but anyone got any suggestions as to what the best crop to sow would be?

Wheat, barley, peas, cabbage ( pigeons love to mill them in winter ) and maybe plant a couple of berry bushes ? Also a couple of rows of mais isn't a bad idea, you can just knock over a couple of stalks when it's ripe and harvest the rest for feeders. Above all let it run a bit wild... .

Thanks for the info - my worry is are we too late for sowing most crops?
