O2 blackberry question

    Hi

I am a bill pay customer and was due an upgrade so went for the blackberry 8110 as it seemed to be a good phone, was free! and was under the impression that it was a simple matter to set it up for email.

Delighted with phone, seems good, but cant seem to set up push email for my email address (currently gmail). I was under impression that all I would have to do is set up imap forwarding etc in my gmail settings.

However I cant seem to get access to email setup settings for this on the phone. The only option it gives me in email set up is "I want to use a work email account with a Blackberry Entreprise Server". There is no option for setting up email with an ISP.

I might be just figuring out that I need to sign up for O2 blackberry/internet service which is an extra 24 euro a month to do this.

Am i right? :( or is there a free way to do this so I can get push email on my phone.

Can't really help all i can say is setting up the Blackberry almost wrecked my head  I ended up having to get a friend who knows his way round computers to do it for me - this is what he earns a crust at and it still took him 2 hours to get it sorted

    Hi thanks anyways.

! question though, are you a business or personal user?

I am a personal user and just wondering (if you are) have you a Blackberry data plan or something with your mobile operator?

    Ah ok.

Ive discovered the o2email website, god this is harder than I thought.

Anyway to use this o2mail site, is it necessary to be on a specific blackberry data tariff with my provider (O2) or can I just set this up. I did enter IMEI and PIN on this site but it said by phone isnt registered or something to that effect.

All you do is go to www.o2mail.ie and select register
Then you enter the IMEI number and PIN number of your Blackberry
The IMEI you can get by typing in *#06# and it will display on screen
To get the PIN number, look under the battery or go to options/settings and Status
Once you add these, the Blackberry is now setup
Now on that page, go to service books and click on send service books
This will send settings to your Blackberry and you can then add mail accounts on the o2mail.ie webpage

<EDIT>By the way, you need to be on the Blackberry tariff. I assume they added that for you when you purchased?</EDIT>

I cannot stress the following enough:

if you did not set up on a blackberry tariff, do not begin using email on your blackberry.

You will get savaged on data costs.

Make sure this is organised first.

Exactly. The Blackberry tariff costs €24 a month for unlimited email and web access and without it, the Blackberry is going to destroy you for email/data costs

So there's pretty much no way you can use a blackberry with a data add-on instead? Even for limited usage?

    Guys,
You cannot use a BlackBerry device without being first provisioned with the service by O2 or Voda. The most you'll be able to do as long as your SIM card is also active, is make calls and send texts, so don't be worrying about data usage charges.

If you're having trouble setting up the service, check out the following guide...
    http://www.o2online.ie/wps/wcm/resources/file/ebc00e4ef6ff9a3/BB_getstarted_O2-1012-7.pdf

But to be honest it is straight forward if you just select the "Setup Wizard" icon and follow the instructions. You won't need to provide device PIN and IMEI no.

But again, before commencing ensure you are provisioned with the BlackBerry Internet Service if you are a personal user. You will now you are provisioned if you see upper case GPRS or EDGE in the top right corner of the home screen.

By the way if you are Gmail user, ensure have POP Download in your account settings.

If you are a Hotmail/Windows Live user, ensure you have purchased premium membership to have POP download ability.

    Regards,

    BlackBerryexprt

If you're having trouble customer care can normally do it for you, give them a call on 1909.

TBH, I'm surprised the store didn't offer to set it up.
