Congratulations. It would never have occurred to me to buy a 4x4 on ebay. That could only work with something like a Defender. There's only so much that could be wrong with them. Sounds like you got good deal to me.
I'll start bidding for a Defender there myself.

Hey hey, congrats, I also got my Jeep on ebay for pittance, it's good for finding the odd deal on a motor.

Curious to know how you buy on ebay. Do you take a risk and go by photos and description or do you pop over to see vehicle??

You go by the photos, listing description and asking the seller questions.
You could go see it if you lived local enough but travelling from Ireland would add to the overall cost. If you win the auction and it's not as described, you can walk away.

OP, how much will it cost to import and re-reg?

I found a guy in Louth who goes over every week and picks up vehicles.... so I'm paying him €500, it would have cost me nearly that to go over and drive it home!
I'm registering it as a commercial, so it'll cost me €50 to re-reg!
