A spokesman for Lancashire Police said officers used a pepper spray as "reasonable force" for their own protection after they feared for their safety when he became aggressive.

after they tried to kidnap him from his own house?

    ye gods.

And all after falling off the couch. What would have happened if he had committed a crime.

So, the police have no idea what has happened, they rightly think a body hit the floor based on the womans concerned call. Now for what reason do you think the police shouldn't enter the premises to check? If they had just believed the guy (assuming he explained what happened) and walked away and there was a body in there the police would have been in big trouble later for not bothering to investigate. In their eyes, they see a guy who won't let them in at least to check everything is ok, slightly suspicious given what they've been told by the lady.

About the night in a cell naked I dunno what the deal is with that.

Is it just me or does there appear to be a bit of the story missing between him getting a knock on the door and him slamming the door on the cops?

I expected to see a report about a drunken Angus Deayton running into the studio and giving Ian Hislop and Paul Merton a good doing with a baseball-bat, for old time's sake.

Look at the side of the guy he didn't look particular large i don't think he would have made that much a sound hitting the floor. That neighbour must have been really nervous or something to call the police for that

Because breaking-and-entering is a criminal offence.

There are thousands of legal activities that create loud bangs and many more that are civil but not criminal offences. It's not grounds for entering someone's property without a warrant. Without either such grounds or a warrant, they're just criminals breaking into somebody's house.

I don't think anyone can make an assumption about this man's arrest as we don;t know the full story. If the police had reasonable grounds to believe a person's life could be at risk then they can enter a premises without a warrant. This usually happens if a person lives alone and hasn't been seen for some time or an elderly person was heard falling in the house. Again there is no need for a warrant but the police officer would have to have good reason for court. You may note that he was charged and this is a good indication that the arrest was sound.
