I have had knee pain for about 5 months now and after my physio telling me it was patella tendonitis, i got orthotics for my feet. Havent ran in about 4 months and tried 2 mile last week only to have to stop with the pain. Hadnt improved at all!! I have gone back to my physio and he now says that it is inflamation in the "knee pad" between the tendon and knee cap. I am losing faith in my physio and getting down about not running in so long. I'm wondering if anyone else has had such persistant knee problems and whether a scan would show a better picture of the problem? Would a visit to my GP and be refered on to a specialist be the answer? Thanks for any help...

We can't give medical advice here. If you are not happy with your current health care provider, try another on.

After waiting for so long for a reply to my message i was disappointed to see your message hunnymonster. Would you prefer if i rephrased the original post to look for anyone who may have experienced what i have rather than asking specific questions? And as i said in the original post, thanks for any help or opinions

    Hi.
As someone who has been running for years (Marathon/road racing) and loving every minute of it I damaged my Knees about three years ago.
I went to several physios 'specialists' and found that none of them could be specific and give me a time frame for 'recovery.'
I researched my injury/consulted with many athletes and found a method of recovery that worked for me. I am now back running for enjoyment every week.
It is worth considering MODERATOR that most of the runners I know LOVE to run; it's a part of their life. When I had my injury I could not run for a year and I found this very difficult to deal with.
With this understanding in mind I believe you (Moderator) should show some sensitivity and understanding to what this person is feeling. Perhaps mattym should rephrase his question and ask for peoples opinion on physio V's Scan or their for their experiences - As I assume I can give my experience on the subject without being sensored for giving Medical Advice!
Are we that aware of our litigious society that we cannot help someone by sharing our experiences?
Mattym, I hope you don't loose sight of your target (to get back running).

Of course we can tell someone about our experiences. If you had read the charter (as you are requested to do before posting in this forum) then you would be aware of this. What we are not about to to is daignose or treat via the internet so there is no way we can answer the OP's question about a scan helping him or not. The advice I gave him was absolutly correct. If you have a problem, see an expert, if the first expert doesn't work, see another.

As for your comment about my lack of sensitivity, had you spent any time on here, you would realise that this moderator and long term runner (winner of serveral marathons and ultra-marathons) has been unable to run since February due an very nasty inflammatory disease. This moderator has scar tissue on a significant portion of her lungs and it is not yet known if this moderator will every be competative again. Then again, if your first post is to give out and be negative, and if you can't be bothered to read the charter, I can hardly expect you to have taken an interest in the community of people who offer appropiate advice on here.

Infraction for adagio for not reading the charter

    Well responded to Hunnymonster.
Respect is duely deserved; my humble apologies and Infraction taken on the chin.
I hope you recover fully and compete again.

    Kind Regards.
