Search this forum will yield plenty of info

B752 is cramped, but service is good and with a smile.

I recently flew Newark to Shannon with Continental and found them to be the best/worst/best again airline I ever flew with.

I booked one-way from Newark to Shannon for €178 (uber cheap you'll agree) as Delta refused to extend my flights (I stayed longer in USA than scheduled) as they were the cheapo non flexible type as part of a package from ebookers.

Story goes I was late for my flight and subsequently got to the baggage drop area in Newark with 35mins before the flight was due to depart, luckily I had done Continental's online check-in so they said "sir you really need to get here earlier in future" and had I not done the online check-in I would not be flying.

Anyways I had a lovely flight and the staff and service was professional and the plane immaculately clean and it was brand new, (a boeing).

Then they became the worst airline ever for me when I my bags never arrived in Shannon, as I discovered it was due to me checking in with 35mins to spare as the porter at the baggage drop never delivered them to check-in for security screening etc., he said "don't worry I'll take care of it" and I reckon had I tipped him they would have come through. I wasn't sure of the etiquette & legality of tipping his equals so I didn't (everyone gets a tip like this stateside in hotels taxis etc.) I was irate at shannon as you can imagine as my bags contained some of my purchases while there clothes and shoes etc. and my travel insurance had expired as I stayed longer than planned. Anyway Continental's contractors logged my complaint and thankfully they were delivered to me exactly 28hrs later.

So that was my experience with them and it was my own fault for being late which was down to heavy rain in Manhatten and the fact that the Holland Tunnel was down to one lane and I was told Newark is 15mins from Queens :mad: yeah maybe by helicopter! But I made it and Continental came up trumps when I most needed them plus it was a cheap flight home.

I think the service in economy on all the carriers from Ireland to the States is pretty much the same these days.

I've always found Continental to have the cheapest fares when I've been flying to NYC.

We tend to use Continental all the time, not least because of their One Pass member system. After a few flights you can get a free first class upgrade or a free internal flight. Also I always find them to be the cheapest with the best connections.Newark airport is also the most user friendly New York airport in my opinion.Staff are pleasant, plus airtrain to Penn Station.Enjoy whatever route you take!!!

Flying business class with them the end of next month - not expecting any issues.

I flew Dublin to Newark with them and had no complaints - I thought it was going to be a bit cramped seen as it wasn't a jumbo but it was fine. I've also flown Delta into JFK and preferred Continental. Also travelling through Newark beats JFK hands down.

I know right anyone here ever flew into JFK's Delta terminal three? the first time I flew in there I will never forget it, I was transiting on for a westward connection and talk about a fright of confusion I got!

There basically is no terminal you walk out into an underground taxi rank with Air Train connection and the "departures area" of the terminal is like something out of Knock or Kerry Airports, basically delta's terminal in JFK is like a revolving door of departures and arrivals with no foodcourt or nothing. I had to take the AirTrain (free) to Terminal 4 (the one Aer Lingus use) for some grub.

yep,it's quite crap. we done the same last august, flew into jfk but were flying with jet blue to vegas. terminal 6 were jet blue are wasn't much better although it was being refurbished at the time. we ended up going to KFC in terminal 4. coming home the departures from terminal 3 was chaotic, they had various lines and were prioritising lines based on when your flight was going. they checked us in using the little kiosks but failed to take our visa waiver forms back. delta were excellent but i'd be loath to go through JFK with them again tbh.
