Getting emails via PDA phone in Dublin

Hi everyone, ive only just found this board and this is my first post.

Im a bit of a technophobe and im struggling to get my emails on my phone. Im self employed and one of my suppliers offered me an SPV M1000 quite cheap so I bought it for the sole purpose of being able to read my emails when im working in Dublin on Sundays.

I live up in Fermanagh but picked up a vodafone payg sim for the 1 Day a week im in Dublin. I seem to have figured out how to access the internet via gprs, although perhaps im doing something wrong as a few minutes seems to have cost about 4 euros. (Although that could be because it being treated as an international call)

In order to view my emails I was having them forwarded on to gmail, then I was accessing gmail via gprs. Is there a better way of doing this? Ideally I would like them to just appear in my inbox as they do when I connect the phone to the pc, rather than having to visit a website to view them.

Any advise, suggestions or help would be hugely appreciated. I realise its an old phone that may be fairly limited in what it can do but hopefully it an serve the purpose I bought it for.

    Thanks very much

    Venger

I assue you have a Vodafone Ireland SIM? If so, you're likely paying for data by the KB (1 or 2 eurocent per KB). GPRS is charged for the amount of data you transfer, not the time you spend online/transferring it.

So 4 euro for the few minutes is really 4 euro for the few mails you downloaded. An email with a few short lines is probably up to 2 or 3KB, but there's data associated with checking for that new mail, etc.

So if you see yourself using a lot more than that 4 quid for that 1 day a week, you should look in to getting a mobile broadband add on. Your SPV doesn't look like it supports EDGE or 3G, but mobile broadband will still work on your GPRS none the less. You don't benefit from the speed enhancement, but you do benefit from the flat rate. Take 3's €9.99 1GB addon (just check those rates on their site .. I think that's the price anyway). 1GB would essentially be unlimited email for your 4 days a month in Dublin (unless you really are pushing big attachments, etc.)

As far as I know, you can't get that on Vodafone Ireland. Three Ireland do an add on for pay as you go. The advantage with PAYG, obviously is that you can cancel anytime should your trips to Dublin not be as frequent or stop altogether.

There are pay-monthly mobile broadband from Voda/o2/Three Ireland but they require a contract, which I assume isn't an option for you?
