ok this is the one to crown my collection.
big 8mm, shell ejecting, hevey weight slick looking etc...etc

i've been looking for one of these bad boys for a while but now wher seems to have one,http://www.redwolfairsoft.com/redwolf/airsoft/ProductDetail?prodID=17532

if it fires 290-310fps on 134a gas so i can have it here, but if on top gas it 430-450fps?? small problem? but i intend it to be a wall hanger.

i was looking at the kit for m16 make over but its not the same without the shells (bit of a pure'st me)

dose any one know of anywhere selling it???
also can any one clear up on the fps???
i know the limit 328fps thats why im asking about 134a gas

any help on this would be great??
    thanks guys

its not just the fps you have to take into account, there's also the weight of the BB, 1 Joule is 328fps with a 0.2g BB, the standard for 8mm is .34g I think, so 1 Joule with .34g is 250fps or thereabouts.

Also, you'll find it hard to find a site that actually has a Barrett in stock

Edit: oh, and it's not shell ejecting either :(

my bad, the VFC one doesn't have shell eject

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,612 ✭✭✭bullets

I want one too. But cannot justify the expense.
Thats something that really pisses me off with airsoft stuff.
Something thats not a bog standard AEG or GBB somehow is sold
for double, tripple or more than other airsoft goods and sometimes
the price outways the price of a real steel firearm.

Surely a Barrett in airsoft does not cost the same amount of money
to produce as say an L96 or a similiar type airsoft rifle. Even the Star
AW338 which is a huge solid and heavy Gas powered does not cost as much as
the cheapest Airsoft Barrett. I really really just dont get it.
    Why the price difference.

I see the same thing happen with the FAL/SLR airsoft gear too.
an M4 or G36 can be picked up for as little as 140 Euro yet anything FAL alike
or similar will set you back 400-500 (or 650 in my case for an SLR)

Surely to manufacture an FAL or similar could not cost double or tripple the
amount of an M4 or G36 so why the price hike! Surely a Barrett cant cost
that much more than most of the other airsoft. Look at some of the M249's that you can buy for about the 300 Euro mark. Cost of making them is probably the same cost to make a Barrett so why is one over a grand and
    the other under 300 Euro.

    thoughts anyone?

A niche model of anything cost more, it will sell less units, but cost the same or more to research, as its unprecedented, factor that in and the fact you have to re-coup higher cost with less units sold, and you get a higher price.

Sucks sure, but all these niche models become demanded items eventually, as there are less and less m4 variants to produce :D

It's economics 101, the item has a market, but it's a small one. So, to get in materials, rig machinery and go through the usual rig-moroll of producing the rifle is going to be more expensive per unit to produce.
Mass market economics for popular rifles like M4's mean that they can kick thousands of them out the door a day using dedicated injection mold, drop forge presses or cnc machines and recoup the cost of manufacture using sheer volume of production.
It's the same reason why a Rover costs next to nothing but a Rolls Royce or Lotus, built just down the road from them will cost a lot more. The quality will be better due to introduction of specialised processes to manufacture them, and due to the small quantities produced you can expect top notch quality assurance. That's where the extra cost goes to.
While technically the rifles all cost more-or-less the same to make materials wise (obviously a Barrett, with all it's metal, is gonna cost a tad more than the likes of a G36c) it's the scale of production that makes it cheap to produce. Which is why you usually see the Barretts have "Limited Edition" after their name and an individual serial number on their magwell, and they only knock out about a thousand at a time. There just isn't the market out there for them to go into full scale production and, therefore, become as cheap as your average rifle.

can you get a kit to make the M16 look like the barrett???

I thought Everyone that would be a fan of guns would all want a Barrett
and there would be a Huge market from them.

We'd all love one to hang on the wall or mess with the odd time, but from a practical point of view, they're so big they'd be a nightmare to use in a skirmish. Plus if I was gonna get one I reckon I'd feel cheated somehow when I fired it and got zero recoil or booming noise. It's something I wouldn't mind to have to display, but, even at a realtively cheap price of, say, 300, I could put a dozen things in front of that I'd want more.

Good God thats 4 Grand not including shipping for a toy!!!
For that money I could get a Real Steel Rifle and licence
it in Ireland that will reach out and touch targets at 1000m.

A real steel Barrett Light fifty can be bought for 4,757 Euro!!!!
    (but cannot be licensed here)

    only 3.999

You can get the real steel for $2500 in florida. What a horrible price difference.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,414 ✭✭✭kdouglas

To be honest, for those kind of silly prices, you'd probably pay less going to your nearest metal fabrication shop and getting them to build you one from scratch.

Edit: actually, for 4000, I could buy a small mill and a lathe and build the bloody thing myself

4 grand for an airsoft rifle,

2 things the shell ejection isnt exactly ejecting the brass there more or less fall out of the breach, fairly lame

it would want to have a fairly heavy kick from it gbb and then some,
