2 hours added to season 4

According to well-informed sources, it’s almost certain that at least one “Battlestar Galactica” TV movie will be made this year.

Here’s even better news: Up to two hours may be added to “Battlestar’s” final run of episodes.

You heard that right: The last leg of the show’s final season could expand to 12 hours, instead of the originally planned 10 hours.

As he discussed here, the show’s executive producer, Ronald D. Moore, wrote "Battlestar's" final episode, which could be up to three hours long (a wild guess here: Sci Fi probably wouldn’t air the whole thing in one night). Mary McDonnell described her reaction to the script this way: It filled her with "an incredible feeling of adrenaline,” she told Ain't It Cool News. “It made me understand the entire saga, and made me excited for all of you.”

As for when the final part of Season 4 will air, Moore has told TV Guide that it’s probably going to be in 2009. (Update: EOnline.com reports that the president of Sci Fi has said the last episodes will begin airing in the "first quarter" of 2009.)

Some people are worried that this is going to mean more filler but I don't care. As much as I've moaned about this show through out it's run I'm gonna really miss when it's gone. I wish they were doing 5 seasons instead of 4.

I can't wait for the Lee and Kara falling about drunk episode. Oh wait, that's happened already? How about getting into a fist fight afterwards. Oh wait, that's been done too? Okay, a Tyrol eats all the curry chips episode it is before the taxi home to Earth episode.

Well if you include Razor and the extra 2 episodes planned that makes season 4 ,24 episodes long.
Season 1 was only 13 episodes so you could say season 4 is two runs of 12 episodes.
They should really just call the next 12 episodes season 5 as there is a gap of a year anyway.

UPDATE: The second half of season 4 will be 11 hours not 12. The series finale will be 3 hours long.

Well it's not really clear if Sci-Fi will air all 3 hours on the same night. But yeah if they do it'll be 9 weeks worth of the show. From a production stand point it'd be considered 11 episodes though.

The original plan was for the finale to be 2 hours long but they decided to add on an extra hour, similar to what happened with Lost this season.

I'd say they'll do a Lost on it.
8 episodes
Then the first part of the finale the following week
Then the final 2 parts of the finale the last week

While I love the fact that they're adding to the series, I'm still and always will be disappointed galactica never made it to the big screen

but I agree with you....there could have been at least 11 brilliant films about BSG!!! LOL

Maybe a combined Caprica One & BSG film?? The cylon invasion in RETROSPECT...a chilling encounter???
