Between shops here such as Gunn's and online?
I have a 450D, need to get a spare battery I'd imagine for a few fests I'm attending and also some SD mem cards.
I have a 2gb card at moment what are decent ones to buy and in 4gb size I'd assume?

regarding memory card sizes all depends how comfortable you are - what I mean by that is the larger the card the more pics fit on it.....so if the card dies or you lose it..etc then you lose a lot more than if, say, using 2gb cards. I tend to use 2gb's - I am a bit of a 'what if' worrier!

I use Sandisk Extreme cards and find them to be superb - beware though there are a lot of fakes in the market, particularly online, so buy from a reputable place.

pricing online will be a lot cheaper than highstreet (simple facts are gunns have more overheads) -

If it's not much I'd rather get 'em from Gunn's.

    Mellor?? not me...same avatar though!

I don;t shop at Gunns so couldn;t say - if they keep their prices in line with the market and buy smart then memory card shouldn't be that great a difference (say 35% and same with the battery - prob is often these additional bits n peices for cameras tend to be where they make money generally as pricing so competitive on cameras - I would think upto 50% more expensive buying from the shop (apologies Gunns if I am wrong!!)

I ordered recently a couple of Nikon batteries for my camera and had pricing of approx €100 for the two of them from a physical shop in Waterford.....including delivery I bought them for €50 or so from KEA online

I'd say buy the memory cards in a shop and the batteries online.
Memory cards (in particula SD) hav recently fallen in preice greatly so you'd pick up a 2gb card in a high street shop for €25 (regular speed, not high speed).

Where as batteries tend to be quite expensive (about €50 each) in actual shops. Although I think Gunns are about €40.

    Good luck

    Hey guys,
Just to add my 2 cents, I know its cf cards but similar thing really.
I went into a photo shop in town and picked up an 8gb sandisk extreme 3 cf card for €120 then went and bought one online, www.expansys.ie and it was only €75 posted and arrived within 2 days.
I would say, buy online when it comes to mem cards, but only buy from reputable sellers. There are a lot of fakes online.
I'd always buy batteries online, just make sure its genuine.
    Good luck!
    Alan

Buy your memory card online or you'll get raped!! Got an 8G SDHC card from dabs.ie for 34e, and as its SDHC its really fast (here). Its brilliant for festivals, have used it myself recently enough and it was perfect.

Just check your camera takes it but most cameras that take SD cards take SDHC
