Another contract-notice period question

    hello good people of boards.ie!

i have an 087xxxxxxx number but am now with meteor. when i left vodafone (2-3yrs ago) it was when my contract had expired, so i just had to pay vodafone another month's fee (as notice period) as i ported over to meteor.

now i am thinking of porting to O2. my contract is up with meteor on 24th august next. about a month or so ago i reduced my monthly plan to their cheapest (plan60) in anticipation i may leave before my contract is up, therefore reducing the amount i would have to pay.

if i port over to O2, say on the 24th june, do i then only have to pay meteor the 2 remaining months of my contact?

or do i have to pay them the 2 months + additional 30days/1month notice as well?

i looked at my contract (t&cs) and i am sure i only have to pay them the remaining months.

but i thought i would ask the good people on here!!

thanks for all the replies in advance!!

You will be billed as usual on 25th June and then if you port out you will be sent your final bill on 25th August. This bill will not include a charge for your monthly commitment.

This was charged in advance at the beginning but seeing as you ported out on 24th June you were not with the network for the final month to avail of the free allocation of minutes. This means that it will likely be credited to your bank account.

I'd give them a call, ask to speak to Customer Support and let them know your intentions. If you still want to port out after you speak with them they will be able to arrange for the credit to be applied to your account.

I hate to be the one to break bad news to you OP but generally when you change your tariff it extends your contract by 12 months. However I am no Meteor expert, so could someone confirm this..?

EDIT: I can't find this in the T's and C's but I know other networks do it. I would ring and ask about it OP, before you do anything which might cost you.

No it does not. With Meteor you can change between any tariff without extending your contract but cannot go lower than the tariff plan you originally signed up on until you have paid 6 bills on that tariff plan.

Think there's going to be a lot of people in your situation next month when the iPhone 3G is released - me included! My contract isn't up until November though should have been July but Meteor had a crap range of phones last year and I had to wait until November for them to get anything decent in.

    hi

rang meteor and they confirm that my contract expires on 12th august and that when i changed my tarriff recently that this did not create or extend a new contract. they also said if i port my number to another network between now and the 12th august that i only have to pay all outstanding charges on my account from the date i port up to and including the 12th (which basically means pay for any remaining line rental plus calls/texts etc i may have used).

    thanks guys for the replies!
