    Howdo,

Im considering purchasing a Ford Cougar. Initially I wasnt a fan of these cars, but this particular one is owned by a friend of the family so its grown on me. It was imported from England a few months back and this guy has struggled to sell it.

    Specs are:

    - 1999 coupe 16v
    - 2 litre petrol
    - Plates will be all changed over
    - Mileage I dont have a figure for yet, but when imported it was very low and has done little since.

Would like some feedback on this car, anyone drove one? Any known issues to look out for? This would probably be a just a short term purchase, 3-6 months so id like to be able to sell it on easily.

    tia,

You wont shift a car on easily if ford couldn't sell them in the first place.

If the current owner hasn't been able to sell it up to now, you'll hardly have an easy time in a few months.

If you're thinking that second hand car sales will kick off again massively after the VRT changes, I wouldn't be so sure. Hopefully there'll be an improvement on the current situation, but with people watching the economy and the backlog of cars for sale that have built up over the past couple of months - coupled with the cars that will come onto the market from people buying new in July to avail of the VRT and Motor Tax savings, I'd say it will take a while before things get moving again.

My dad bought one of the first ones that came into the country, and kept it for 7 years ( And that is a seriously long time for him), my brother also had a 2.5 V6 one. I drove both many times.

    Upsides:
They are a cracking drive and have excellent ride comfort despite the taught springs - based on the Mondeo platform.
huge boot, bit of a waste considering how many people acutally fit inside to cart luggage for.

Downsides: plastiky US designed interior - I really don't know how they let them away with this.
Back seats are useless to Adults : anyone over 5 feet will have their head under the rear window and melt.

the 2.0 is no fire ball and the 2.5 drinks a bit.

I have bought and sold alot of cars - dads Cougar went up on friday and I had the deposit by lunch time Saturday, thats defo close if not the quickest I have managed to sell a car.

Me Brudder has one (V6 Auto) and I'd agree with all of RobAMerc's comments.

Nice to drive but not as quick as you might expect for a 2.5. The 2 litre might be very "leisurely".

I think they are a great looking car, pretty rare too, not your usual.
I hear they can be quite expensive if you need ever need any body panels as there wasnt that many sold, so none lying around breaker yards etc.

If you fancy something a bit different for little money its a contender.
I agree with what other say about selling it on easy, you won't.

I imagine my experience of selling it is the exception rather than the rule though.

Thanks for the feedback, just what I was after. I have a taker for my current car which and the Cougar is available which is why Im interested in changing.

What price would a COugar as above go for? I can find two on carzone, one for just under 3k and another for nearly 6k.

Need to know the miles and if the guy is only VRT'ing it now, will it be put through the NCT as well?
Id guess that the 3k one is more of a realistic price comparsion.

Indeed, some gems on there alright. There's one for a K10 Micra that lists all the things he did to it to try and trash it very funny.
