While browsing the Irish Film Censors Office list of upcoming releases , I noticed the Mist is out on July 4th. Took long enough. It was out in the US in november, and was out on dvd their a while ago-whats with the delayed release over here?

On the film, absolutly loved it. One of the best horrors of recent years, with an ending that scared the **** out of me.

Not sure if its on this release but on the special edition release there is a black and white print of the movie , which was the way the director wanted the film to be shown. It mightn't sound like a great extra but seriously it actually adds tremendously to the atmosphere of the flic and really enhances it.

Can see people expecting it to be another run of the mill horror movie, and being...taken aback :p Very strong movie, and if you haven't seen it, don't let anyone ruin it for you.

Brilliant film! I wonder why it took so long to come out here though.

average movie with a fantastic ending...With a bigger budget it would have been amazing. Dodgy fx kinda annoyed me but all round it was pretty good.

You wouldn't have got that ending with a big budget movie. It wasn't reassuring enough for audience used to the crap that Hollywood churns out. Must admit I laughed my ass off...but then I'm going straight to hell :D
I didn't think the special effects were too bad actually especially the stuff in the distance - hell of a lot better than Cloverfield!

Average movie with a great ending is the best description. Dodgy CGI, cookie-cutter characters and some awful hammy acting by virtually the entire cast. The ending is good, the rest is utterly forgettable.

I loved it, in fact my review is here . I love the film and have seen it several times on DVD and will be going to see it in the cinema again.

Huh, isnt that that Karl's review?

Great movie, btw. Have only watched in on DVD but might even go see it again just for that big cinema sound / atmosphere.

yeah excellent movie. Kinda glad I watched this before hearing anything about it. I watched it thinking it was going to be another movie like "The Fog" and ended up getting blown away. Might actually go to see this in the cinema just to see the reaction on peoples faces when it ends.

Drove me nuts how in a super market full of panicking people everyone took turns to talk and say their lines... it all felt very awkward.

Indeed. At times, it was almost as if you were watching a student play or an acting workshop.

I wrote a full review of it here: http://www.rotsyourbrain.com/2008/04/07/the-mist/
