How to delete folders from ipod

I don't like iTunes and use Media Monkey instead. When I connected my old iPod to transfer some music onto it I wanted to delete the tracks already on it. However, I can't get rid of all the tracks. When I open the folders I can see the music inside them. I highlight the songs and press delete. It doesn't work for them all though. No matter how many times I delete them they keep popping back into the folder! I then can't delete the folders because they're not empty. Is there any other way of getting rid of them? I could re-load iTunes and do a restore but just wondering if there's a simpler way?

Just discovered that when I go back into the tracks that are left they show up as 0 bytes??

Sigh, more problems. Just re-loaded it with music. It's full. When I check it in 'my computer' it shows all the tracks and I can play them no problem. When I disconnect my ipod and go to listen to it it wont't play anything! The tracks are there cos I can see them but when I press play it just flicks through the titles and plays nothing! Anyone any idea what's wrong? Worked with my other 2 ipods last night
