    hi all

i have a cool old squier tele i got of my mate for a loan
(one of the late 80's-early 90's good jap ones)

anyway, the difference between the middle position
    and neck position is unregonisable

I assume they should sound different but are they very close in sound?
does this sound like dodgy wiring? the guitar is stock

    regarding the baseplate/bridge arrangement
it has individual legs for each string
is this the classic tele setup or has it been improved?
there is nothing wrong with it, just curious

    thanks

    Get a screwdriver.

Move the switch to the neck position. Tap the pickups with the screwdriver. You should hear a fairly solid thumping sound from the neck pickup, nothing from the bridge pickup.

Move the switch to the middle position. Tap both pickups. You should hear the same thumping sound from both.

Move the switch to the bridge position. Tapping both pickups again you should hear the thumping sound from the bridge pickup and nothing from the neck pickup.

If, with the switch in the middle position, you're getting the thumping sound from both when tapped, you might need to raise one closer to the strings/lower one away from the strings in order to get the tonal difference you seek. Adjust to taste.

If you only get the sound from one, your switch/wiring needs to be repaired.

As for the bridge, I assume you mean there are six string saddles? This is normal, the original Tele's had three saddles, one supporting two strings, later models had six individual saddles, perfecty normal.
